Though they’re wildly different games on the surface, Alan Wake 2 and Spider-Man 2 are sequels representing massive achievements for their respective studios. In an IGN interview, Remedy’s Sam Lake and Insomniac’s John McAdam discuss some of the intricacies of game development, and how they dealt with having two protagonists.

Remedy Entertainment's Alan Wake 2 received widespread acclaim from fans and critics when it launched on 27th October, continuing the tale of the tortured, titular writer. The sequel to the cult-classic Alan Wake, buoyed by more than a decade of hype and developed by a Remedy with the momentum of a well-received Control behind it, you'd expect the game to sell like gangbusters, wouldn't you?

It's almost Christmas time, and you know what that means — publishers and developers from around the globe have descended on the PS Blog to spread some seasons greetings. Yes, the annual tradition returns, with lots of well-known teams sharing a festive image for fans to enjoy.

After years of working, we released Alan Wake 2 a bit over a month ago. We wanted to create an ambitious, unique game, and with something like that there’s always nervousness about how it will be received. A funny thing happened when I sent questions over to Alan Wake 2 composer Petri Alanko. After he sent over his responses, I had the uncanny experience of realizing they sounded like something Alan Wake himself would write.

Twelve Deer Heads are found across all the regions you can explore in , offering a rare collection of rewards for those who discover each location of these trophies. Tracking down each of these hunting prizes gives you insight into the mindset of Saga Anderson, the character you embody for most of the game. You may have to use special items to get into the various buildings that have Deer Heads in their decoration.

Remedy Entertainment's revival of Alan Wake sees the developer bring back its winding, complex game about horror storytelling in a bold new way. leaves a lot to the imagination. It declines to answer many questions, big and small, throughout its entire story. But its unsolved mysteries are most concentrated in its final chapters. The last two hours of are packed to the gills with out-of-place artifacts, inexplicable plot devices, and uninterrogated ideas. There certainly seems to be a plan in place, and some of these questions will definitely be answered in 's New Game Plus mode and DLC. But for the time being, players are left to wonder.

The release of has been met with wide approval, praised for its strong storytelling and creepy atmosphere. Naturally, as a sequel to a game made in 2010, many wonder whether experience with the previous entries in the franchise is necessary to play or understand. Like many sequels, the story of directly follows the events of the first game, but the question of whether it's required to play other Remedy Entertainment games like is a bit more nuanced than a yes or no answer.

Nursery Rhymes are found scattered throughout three areas of , all of which have puzzles for you to solve by placing sculpted Dolls in various positions around creepy chalk drawings. Finding the solution to these riddles grants you Charms, or items that give you a passive buff. Attack bonuses and extra charges for your flashlight are just a few of the rewards given from any completed Rhyme.

The supernatural horror in makes itself known many times throughout the story, but the boss fight against Cynthia, The Drowned Lady that you must beat shows you just how far certain terrors can spread. In the fifth section of Inspector Saga's journey, you'll encounter Cynthia as a dark spirit trying to kill a musician named Tor Anderson. This ghost has great power over the darkness that may be difficult for you to overcome.

Foe Robert Nightingale returns in as a boss that you will have to beat fairly early. Unlike the first game, he is no longer a Federal Agent but still stalks Alan and Saga during the adventure. Nightingale has been murdered by the Cult of the Tree and turned into a dark apparition.

Cult Stashes are sources of loot in , but these locations are locked until you complete simple puzzles with different solutions. Scattered across three different regions, each Stash has unique rewards that range from basic items to special upgrades and weapons. A final key given from the last Cult storage space lets you access an area on one map you could not reach normally throughout the story.

Remedy Entertainment has released a brand-new patch for Alan Wake 2 which makes over 200 individual improvements to the game.

is getting a New Game Plus feature called Final Draft, but what exactly that all means isn't yet clear. At present, has no NG+. Players can run through it, beat the final boss of , watch the credits roll, and start a new game, but nothing will change the second time around. Enemies will be in the same places with the same stats, and Alan and Saga will have their base game abilities. They won't carry over anything from the first playthrough.

In , players will often encounter locks that need to be opened, and many of these can be bypassed with a screwdriver. Finding it will be helpful for anyone who wants to grab everything they can, although the screwdriver will not be helpful with locks that require specific keys or key codes. Even so, it is still very important to get access to every location in the game, and a screwdriver will go a long way toward getting you there.

While playing as Inspector Saga in , you may come across lunchboxes with an «Alex Casey» logo, with weapon upgrade parts you can use if you find all the locations of these items. Every lunchbox is found while you explore the game's small town while also trying to solve the murders tied to it. Collecting each Alex Casey box scattered across three major districts gives you better tools to fight enemies throughout the story.

Remedy Entertainment has rolled out a major new Alan Wake 2 update across all platforms, including over 200 improvements and fixes.

The Manuscript Pages in Alan Wake 2 allow you to look deeper into the larger story happening in the game. These pages are scattered throughout the narrative, but some are well-hidden and hard to find in Watery.

Released in Fall 2023, Remedy Entertainment and Epic Games Publishing's phenomenal survival horror game is a horror tour de force. Like many games, features a number of collectible items as well as trophies for satisfying certain criteria. While many of the game's achievements cannot be missed, or can at least be completed at the player's leisure, a number are time-sensitive and can all too easily be overlooked or neglected.

The Cult Stashes you find in Alan Wake 2 can be extremely helpful in keeping your supplies high throughout the course of your playthrough. There are several you can find while exploring Bright Falls.

Scratch, the shadow creature spreading corruption and chaos in , is the final boss you have to beat toward the end of this intense survival horror game. Although there is another Chapter to the story after this fight, you won't have another chance to foil the schemes of this horrifying entity. This short encounter will test your ability to multitask quickly as you try to keep an artifact called the Clicker out of Scratch's hands.

There are two shotguns available to players of , which they can find at different points in the story. Saga can use one, and one can be used by Alan later in the story, although both will have little ammo at first. However, both of the shotguns will be very useful for the enemies the characters encounter and can allow them to escape the Dark Presence.

Alan Wake 2 is finally out. It’s quite the scary ride, and one our review-in-progress offered plenty of praise for as Remedy Entertainment went back for round two. However, Alan Wake 2 may suffer a few launch hiccups, as an annoying audio issue affects some Xbox players.

If you're a fan of games such as Alan Wake, Control, and Quantum Break, you'll know that developer Remedy Entertainment has some pretty far-reaching narrative plans to tie all of its work into the same universe. Quantum Break is the exception, as its status as an Xbox exclusive and semi TV series has made it difficult for Remedy to merge it with the overall narrative, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a few easter eggs of its own.

It took years after the release of Alan Wake before Remedy Entertainment could return and bring out a proper sequel. The game development team had previously tried to deliver a game installment to keep the narrative going for Alan Wake; however, nothing quite lined up in their favor. Instead, they went on to create games like Quantum Break and Control. However, since the release of Control, the developers were finally able to pick Alan Wake back up and deliver a new game for fans. Now that this Alan Wake 2 game is finally available, the development studio is crediting the folks over at Epic Games for giving them the creative freedom required to deliver such an acclaimed hit. 

The ultimate weapon is waiting for Saga in the Sheriff’s Station. If you’re looking to deal maximum damage fast, you’ll want to unlock the Pump-Action Shotgun in Alan Wake 2. This killer shotgun holds six shells, letting you lay down even more hurt on swarms of Taken you’ll face at the end of the game. When the action heats up, you’ll need to deal as much damage as possible.

Epic Games Publishing and Remedy Entertainment's exceptional survival horror game, , is a phenomenal game that features some of the best vocal acting in any recently released title. Managing to avoid the lure of hiring widely known celebrities to fill out its roster of voices, does still feature a cast comprised of a number of figures with easily recognizable voices — many of which players will quite possibly be able to identify from their notable roles in the worlds of film, theater, and television, and, in a few select cases, even from other popular video games.

Instead of finding Manuscript Fragments for upgrades, the eponymous character will need to find Words of Power in Alan Wake 2. These Words of Power locations allow Alan to upgrade himself in multiple different special character trees. Each upgrade increases his strength in a different way — you can deal more damage, enhance your health, or make your weapons more powerful. It all depends on those Words of Power.

Don’t miss out on the Crossbow in Alan Wake 2. Depending on how you progress the story and if you’re searching everywhere you go, it is possible to miss the Crossbow or get it much later in the story. The Crossbow is an incredibly valuable weapon that can score one-shot kills if you get the right upgrades. Not only that, but you’ll be able to recover the bolts from the ground or even dead enemies. Keeping a stock of Crossbow Bolts is surprisingly easy if you’re patient and learn how to use it.
