Many gamers have found creative ways to pay homage to classic gaming, and a recent example includes one fan of the original PlayStation who created neat PS1-style cases for modern games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Assassin’s Creed Mirage, complete with customized box art. 2024 marks 30 years since the PS1’s debut, so this fan’s project, besides being rather timely, is a fun and practical way to pay homage to Sony’s debut console during a huge milestone year.

I’ve played roughly 150 hours of Suika Game, and instead of getting better at the game, I think I’m getting worse. Like my colleague Julia Lee, Suika Game has had me in an absolute chokehold. From Japanese developer Aladdin X, Suika Game was originally available only on the Japanese eShop, but it came stateside in October. I started playing it in December, and since then, it’s basically the only game I’ve played on the Nintendo Switch.

After the packed year that was 2023, it feels like 2024 may be a bit more of a bridge year, although there’s still plenty for the action fan to look forward to over the next 12 months. A lot of this year’s action games are going big, with Rise of the Ronin and Star Wars Outlaws being full open world, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II at the very least being much larger than its predecessor (Ninja Theory hasn’t confirmed whether they’re going outright open-world yet). Certainly, everything on this list is pushing the technical bar hard, whether it be the dizzying action of Stellar Blade or the UE5 visuals of Metal Gear Solid Delta. Here are Wccftech’s top 5 action games you’ll be battling through in 2024.
