Apple’s OLED iPad Pro family will reportedly see a launch in March this year, but new information states that the company has cut back on display orders by 30 percent. It appears that for the initial batch, the Cupertino giant does not believe that the new tablets will yield the same success as previous models, and there are likely a few reasons why this is the case, which we have discussed here.
Rumored high prices and lower demand for tablets are probable reasons why Apple has cut back on OLED orders for the upcoming iPad Pro range
A supply chain report spotted by Patently Apple highlights a grim future for the OLED iPad Pro series, as panel orders have apparently taken the foot off the gas. According to the latest data, with the latest order cuts, partners such as LG, TSMC, Foxconn, and Novatek Microelectronics have been affected. Initially, it was estimated that Apple would order around 10 million OLEDs for the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but that figure has dropped between 7-8 million.

Regardless, it is not a significant loss for Apple, as its previous-generation iPad Pro models are available at regular discounts, not to mention more affordable options, to offset this setback. LG will reportedly suffer the most out of all the suppliers, as its order count has been reduced from 6 million to 3 million. Samsung, another Korean supplier of these panels, is said to maintain the same shipment number, which is 4 million. There are various reasons why Apple has decided to pursue an OLED orders cut, with one industry insider commenting on the latest report.
Previously, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had stated that Apple was cutting back on its M3 orders as there was a decline in demand for various iPad models. Given the current global economic landscape, the situation has been tough for consumers and companies. The new OLED iPad Pro family is also rumored to start from a whopping $1,500, and though Display Supply Chain Consultants founder and CEO Ross Young has praised the new slates for their cutting-edge display technology, it will matter little if Apple cannot sell enough.
We will monitor how successful the upcoming iPad Pro launch is, but the previous quarters have revealed that Apple’s hardware business, particularly the tablet side, is not performing well, so it is likely that we hear the same tale in the coming months.

Google’s previous Tensor chipsets powering the company’s Pixel lineup of smartphones and, just recently, a tablet, are, in one way or another, based on Samsung’s previous Exynos SoC launches. The Tensor G3’s unique 9-core CPU cluster was likely based on the Korean giant’s unreleased Exynos 2300, so it would be completely fine to assume that the upcoming Tensor G4 would have some relation with the Exynos 2400. Unfortunately, the specification differences do not give us confidence in this claim, even though one tipster believes it.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will exclusively be mass produced on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, but its successor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, might switch to a dual-foundry approach as Qualcomm reportedly looks to secure orders from both Samsung and its Taiwanese semiconductor rival. The San Diego chipset maker has apparently requested both companies to provide 2nm samples, which can be evaluated further.

Google has so far disappointed us with its Tensor series that powers the company’s Pixel lineup of smartphones, and according to the latest benchmark leak, which has added the Tensor G4, it appears that history may repeat itself. Fortunately, one can quickly assume that these results represent the chipset’s early testing phases, suggesting that the latest single-core and multi-core figures might improve in the coming months. Regardless, we look closer at the CPU cluster and how the latest numbers stack up against the Tensor G3.

Apple has spent years trying to bring a non-invasive blood sugar monitor to its smartwatches but has always come up short due to technological limitations. Shrinking a sensor to a size that can be accommodated in a wearable and take accurate readings is a difficult undertaking, though according to the latest report, Samsung is trying to introduce the technology before its closest rival in the smartphone space. The Korean giant is also attempting to provide an entire suite of health-focused features to consumers and is expected to debut various technologies in a wide range of wearable products.
Apple failed to introduce new iPad upgrades last year, which resulted in a 10 percent slump in overall revenue from the category. The company is expected to release upgrades throughout this year, ranging from OLED iPad Pro models to the iPad mini 7. While the entry-level iPad and iPad mini upgrade are scheduled for the second half of this year, Apple plans to launch the OLED iPad Pro and iPad Air 6 models in the Spring. A new report from Bloomberg details the launch of the iPad Pro and iPad Air models.
