Nintendo's upcoming new platform, for now, dubbed the Nintendo Switch 2, could very well end up sporting 12GB of RAM - a huge upgrade over the Switch's current 4GB of memory.
At least, that's what supposed shipment and customs data between NVIDIA and Nintendo could have revealed. Apparently, Famiboards tracked a site that publicly logged shipment data that they linked to NVIDIA and the Switch 2. As explained by Reddit user 'Darthdiablo', Famiboards has been tracking this data for months with the data being roughly two months old. "We began looking through the shipment data and found mentions of T239 being tested/validated at NVIDIA India (circa 2022), the devkits (Carpa X1, IWOH), and a bunch of Hosiden data (located in Vietnam, they manufacture parts for Nintendo consoles)", the user writes on Reddit. "We were able to determine identifiers matching up with current Switch hardware (OLED, Lite, orig, v2), as well as one that cannot be matched up to any current hardware (presumed Switch 2)."
Digging through the data, Famiboards appears to have found signs that the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature 12GB of RAM, likely coming from two 6 GB 7500 MT/s LPDDR5 modules. In addition, the platform is said to sport 256GB of Universal Flash Storage (UFS 3.1).
While the above information is unverified and needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt for now, this isn't the first time that we've heard about 12GB of RAM for Nintendo's Switch successor - back in September of last year, Universo Nintendo editor-in-chief Necro Felipe also claimed that the Switch 2 will sport 12GB of memory. Interestingly enough, as covered earlier this year, YouTuber 'Moore's Law is Dead' also suggested that the Switch 2 could end up with 12GB of memory (although other configurations also appeared possible). "I'm not that close to the project, but I can say that Samsung 8nm is a perfect match for Nintendo", an NVIDIA source close to 'Moore's Law is Dead' reportedly said. "It's the lowest cost/transistor node on the market, and it's not expected to be as competitive for capacity as more modern nodes over the next few years. Also, remember that with 128-bit LPDDR5, Nintendo could realistically choose 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB capacities for the SOC we designed for them."
We've included the video in which 'Moore's Law is Dead' included this alleged testimony from an NVIDIA source below.
As said, sporting 12GB of RAM will be quite the upgrade over the current 4GB of RAM inside the Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 has yet to be officially unveiled, but earlier this week, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the platform will be announced
The Nintendo Switch is now the most successful platform in history in terms of Pokemon games sold, overtaking the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance.
The franchise has had numerous titles appear on the Nintendo Switch, many of which are among the best-selling games the console has had in its seven-plus years of life. However, new information has revealed that the Switch's lifecycle has been the best period of the series, as it has eclipsed all past generations by large margins, even ahead of Gen 10 and future games' releases.
The 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM the Nintendo Switch 2 is rumored to feature could deliver better texture quality than the Xbox Series S, and address many of the visual quality issues of the current Nintendo consoles.
According to well-known leaker Midori, Nintendo has been calling its new console the 'Switch 2' and 'New Switch' behind closed doors, but it might not be the actual name when it's finally unveiled to the public (outside of a random tweet on a Tuesday, that is).
Three Game Boy games have been added to Nintendo Switch Online.
Nintendo Switch enthusiasts are gearing up for an eventful year ahead, as the gaming giant unveils its lineup for the latter half of 2024. With a blend of new releases and anticipated sequels, gamers have much to anticipate. Here's a concise rundown of what's on the horizon:

According to some rumors about the next Nintendo console, the Switch successor could include RAM that puts it within range of the Xbox Series S while in Docked mode, but with a few differences between the systems. The same rumors also state that, while the Switch 2's specs remain unconfirmed by Nintendo, the system could use DLSS to bridge the gap between other current consoles.
Nintendo has revealed that fans can expect an announcement about the upcoming Switch successor, or Switch 2 as it has come to be known, sometime before the end of the current fiscal year. Rumors about the next iteration of the Nintendo Switch have been swirling for the past couple of years, which is understandable considering that the company’s unique hybrid console originally launched in 2017. Even upon its release, the Switch was considered to be one generation behind the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and many gamers have been waiting for Nintendo to release hardware that could compete graphically and technically with ninth-generation consoles.
The Nintendo Switch isn’t quite the sales juggernaut nowadays, but it’s still performing fabulously despite entering its seventh year on the market. In its latest earnings report, Nintendo revealed that the console had sold 141.32 million units worldwide as of March 31st, 2024.
Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal will take place this fiscal year, but set expectations ahead of June’s Nintendo Direct by stating that this stream will not feature the next generation console.
Amid months, even years, of rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has finally confirmed its existence. It will be revealed within this fiscal year, i.e. between now and March 31st, 2025.
