Amid months, even years, of rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has finally confirmed its existence. It will be revealed within this fiscal year, i.e. between now and March 31st, 2025.
Before that, the company will host a Nintendo Direct in June to outline the current Switch’s software lineup for the latter half of this year. Those hoping for any early news on the Switch’s successor should take heed – it won’t be mentioned during the presentation.
The Nintendo Switch 2 (final name TBA) is rumored to have two SKUs – a standard model for $449 and an all-digital edition for $399. It also reportedly supports Ray Reconstruction and Nvidia DLSS 3.5, though potentially not as feature-complete as on PC, with new Joy Con buttons. Nikkei reported a March 2025 release, corroborated by Atlus and Sega leaker Midori.
It’s possible that the console will be revealed this year and launch in March 2025, perhaps coinciding with the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Other titles rumored for the platform include Hi-Fi Rush, Persona 6, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Persona 3 Reload, Far Cry 7 and more.
Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

The Nintendo Switch is now the most successful platform in history in terms of Pokemon games sold, overtaking the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance.
The franchise has had numerous titles appear on the Nintendo Switch, many of which are among the best-selling games the console has had in its seven-plus years of life. However, new information has revealed that the Switch's lifecycle has been the best period of the series, as it has eclipsed all past generations by large margins, even ahead of Gen 10 and future games' releases.
The 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM the Nintendo Switch 2 is rumored to feature could deliver better texture quality than the Xbox Series S, and address many of the visual quality issues of the current Nintendo consoles.
According to well-known leaker Midori, Nintendo has been calling its new console the 'Switch 2' and 'New Switch' behind closed doors, but it might not be the actual name when it's finally unveiled to the public (outside of a random tweet on a Tuesday, that is).
The Game Boy – Nintendo Switch Online app will add has added Alleyway, Baseball, and Super Mario Land, Nintendo announced.
Nintendo seems extremely serious about the security of the Nintendo Switch 2, going so far as to create a codename for the system's actual codename.
After endless speculation, Nintendo finally said something concrete about their plans for a Switch successor as part of their most recent earnings report, promising to announce the Switch 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) sometime during this fiscal year, which extends until the end of March, 2025. There are rumors that the Switch 2 will be unveiled this Fall and release in March of 2025, but nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo themselves.
Following the confirmation that the next iteration of the Nintendo Switchwill be unveiled before March 2025, recent leaks may have just revealed the hardware users can expect to find within the hybrid console. The current iteration of the ever-popular console is notorious for its less-than-desirable specs; even when it launched in 2017, it's power was significantly less than competitors like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. While the so-called Switch 2 likely won't rival Sony and Microsoft's machines in terms of performance, it sounds like it will at least be a major step up for Nintendo.
Japan's Nintendo said on Tuesday it plans to make an announcement about the successor to its long-lasting Switch console during the financial year ending March 2025.
Nintendo’s latest Switch sales projections could bring it extremely close to beating out the PlayStation 2 as the highest-selling console of all time. The Nintendo Switch has been shattering sales records left and right since it first launched back in 2017, surpassing the Nintendo DS as the best-selling system in Japan and outselling other landmark Nintendo platforms like the original Game Boy and the Nintendo Wii.
Nintendo has dropped a major hint about what the Switch 2 will look like, suggesting that its next console will retain the hybrid form factor of its predecessor. This bit of insight into the much-anticipated device emerged from Nintendo's latest earnings call.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released sometime in March 2025, and the first reveal of the highly anticipated system will be coming this Fall.
