Daedalic Entertainment and Core Engage have announced that the diesel punk city builder New Cycle will be available in Steam Early Access from January 18th. New Cycle takes place in a world that has seen its technology revert back after a catastrophic solar flare. This has led to the modern world collapsing, and the start of new era beginning. Players will need to grow from having a single shack to a bustling city.
Things will not be easy in New Cycle as resources will prove scarce. There are a few citizens that are available to start harvesting the resources around you, and this will be the foundation of your city. As time progresses, resources become scarcer nearby meaning having to explore further afield for goods. At the same time, your civilisation will rediscover old technologies and ways of working, meaning you can build up production lines to keep your city fed and people happy. Citizen morale and wellbeing is vital to the success of the new city. If they are overworked, they are at risk of becoming ill, and making mistakes. If people are unhappy for too long they will abandon the city.
That is not the only danger to the city in New Cycle. Random events can strike at any time which derail progress. A sudden pandemic could wipe out a lot of workers, sandstorms will disrupt powerlines, and there will be other groups of humans that will be a threat to what you have built, intent on its destruction.

For some time now, fans of survival games have had their eye on Enshrouded, the new game from the makers of Portal Knights that’s a little bit Zelda, and more than a little bit Valheim. Roots Of Yggdrasil - an inkwashed, roguelikey, card-playing, turn-based citybuilder, inspired by Norse myth - shot to the top of my wishlist after I read Katharine's preview last week. And look, here it is in Early Access. Roots isn't one of your traditional, SimCity-derived town sims in which you steadily colonise a single map (at least, until you lose patience with your glittering urban creation and press the Godzilla or Hurricane button). As per the roguelike element, it's a game about being on the run.
Total sales for open-world survival crafting game Palworld have surpassed seven million units in only five days after its Early Access launch, developer Pocket Pair announced. (Update 1:40 a.m.: According to Geoff Keighley, Pocket Pair has confirmed that these sales numbers are Steam only, and do not include Xbox, Microsoft Store for PC, or Game Pass numbers.)
Note: This review is specifically of the PC version of Palworld available through Steam. Because the Xbox version and the PC version available via the Microsoft Store (both on Game Pass) has significantly more issues and different features , which the developer says is due to the certification process, we will post a separate review of that version later this week.
If you feel recent roguelite games have been missing that platform fighter touch, Spiritfall is here to answer the call. Developer Gentle Giant’s action game takes notes from Super Smash Bros., Brawlhalla, and similarly hectic platform fighter fare, and it’s set to launch in full on February 28, 2024.
The world never looks particularly inviting in the future does it? The stability of buildings reaches an all-time low, there seems to have been an increase in sand, and any human beings spend a good deal of time being bothered by some form of irradiated wildlife. It’s bleak, and New Cycle, the latest post-apocalyptic city builder from Core Engage, captures that bleakness with a surety and poise that you may actually wonder how on Earth you’re having any fun. And yet, you are.
Total sales for open-world survival crafting game Palworld have surpassed two million units 24 hours after its Early Access launch, developer Pocket Pair announced.
