MultiVersus fans think that an ongoing ARG that's scheduled to end at some point today is going to reveal the next big character coming to the game - The Joker.
As great as it was to finally see MultiVersus re-emerge after more than a year without any substantial updates (and no, the constant Twitter teases don't count), fans have been a little disappointed that we haven't had any new character reveals in that time. Sure, we've had hints at The Powerpuff Girls and Dexter, but we're all hoping for a proper unveiling of who we can play as next.
That looks like it's about to change very soon, though. Yesterday, the official MultiVersus social media accounts shared an image of a purple and yellow box with a padlock around it, signalling the start of a ten-part ARG that tasked players with finding clues and revealing what's in the box.
As anyone who bothered to watch the MultiVersus and NHL crossover will no doubt know, we've been burned by getting too excited about social media teases for MV in the past, so it's fair to say there was some scepticism about this event. Seemingly aware of this, the MultiVersus account confirmed that whatever the ARG unlocked would be good, as they said at the event's start, "Trust us, it's worth it".
With that and the game's impending release in mind, it seems very likely that the box contains a new character inside, finally giving us our first official idea of who's coming to the game next. In the time since the ARG started, MultiVersus fans have flown through seven clues with the next three being released at some point later today. With only three more clues left to find, it seems very likely that the box will be unveiled today.
That just leaves us with one big question - who's in the box?! Well, you might think that Dexter or the Powerpuff Girls are the obvious answers, but there's actually one more contender who makes a lot of sense. The last big character who was rumoured to be coming to MultiVersus before it went offline was The Joker, so it's likely he's the one being teased.
It seems that MultiVersus' version of The Joker will be voiced by Mark Hamill, as voice lines from him have previously been found by dataminers .
Even ignoring Joker being so close to release last time, it seems that the ARG is hinting at his arrival. The seventh clue for the event was found in a panel of Joker: Year One, which seems like a big wink at who it could be. Of course, the event has led fans across many shows and WB properties, but Joker isn't represented in MultiVersus at all yet, so it would be strange to have one of the clues link to him if he wasn't in.
