NetherRelam has finally shown off some of Peacemaker’s gameplay ahead of his forthcoming Mortal Kombat 1 debut, and there is even a new Kameo fighter to go with him. Every Mortal Kombat entry since 2011’s MK 9 included guest characters from other popular media as post-launch content, and Mortal Kombat 1 is continuing this tradition with its ongoing Kombat Pack 1. First came Omni-Man, who brought his brutal brand of Viltrumite justice to the rebooted world of MK 1 back in November. He will eventually be joined by The Boys’ Homelander sometime this spring, but before that another comic-book character will be stepping into the MK 1 arena.
The once-obscure DC Comics vigilante Peacemaker has gained a great deal of notoriety over the past few years, thanks in no small part to John Cena’s portrayal of Christopher Smith in The Suicide Squad and the connected Peacemaker television show. Peacemaker was announced as a Mortal Kombat 1 DLC guest character alongside the aforementioned Omni-Man and Homelander back in July, and he will be released in early access on February 28. As was the case with the previous MK 1 DLC characters, NetherRelam has provided fans with an exciting look at how the peace-obsessed anti-hero will play when he joins the game’s roster.
Earlier this week, a gameplay trailer for Peacemaker demonstrated the character's moves and gameplay in Mortal Kombat 1, with John Cena reprising his role from the DC Extended Universe in both likeness and voice. It starts with a humorous homage to the Peacemaker intro sequence before jumping straight into the action as Peacemaker challenges the likes of Liu Kang, Mileena, and fellow Mortal Kombat 1 DLC fighter Quan Chi. During these bouts, Peacemaker’s irreverent personality is on full display as he taunts his enemies and battles with various strikes, firearms, and even an assist or two from his trusty pet Eagly.
The brutality ramps up when Peacemaker unleashes his Fatal Blow move, in which he summons Eagly to scratch at his opponent’s face before firing a shotgun at their chest at point-blank range. The trailer then reveals Peacemaker’s primary Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality, where he straps on a jetpack and launches himself at the enemy, tearing them in half and viciously dragging their upper torso across the ground. Peacemaker then disintegrates what’s left of his unlucky foe with a sonic boom from his helmet before feeding a small piece of the resulting gore to Eagly in a victory celebration.
Fans have been excited for Peacemaker since he was first announced as a Mortal Kombat 1 DLC character, and he won’t be the only new face coming to the game. The recent trailer also revealed that a new MK 1 Kameo fighter will be added in the form of Janet Cage, a female variant
