A new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 has given us a very brief glimpse at Homelander, including showing off his two fatalities and letting us hear his voice for the first time. No, we're not sure if it's Antony Starr, either.
Although the original Mortal Kombat characters who were offered in Mortal Kombat 1's first Kombat Pack haven't been the most exciting (and were even seemingly cut from the launch roster), the third-party fighters like Peacemaker and Omni-Man have been a big hit. As great as those two were, though, there's one that has easily stood out as the most anticipated - Homelander from The Boys.
Ever since the first Kombat Pack was revealed, Homelander has been the most talked-about character, although not always for the best reasons, as it's long been suggested that Antony Starr wouldn't be returning for the role. This controversy, along with how popular The Boys has been in recent years, has had fans patiently waiting for his full gameplay reveal and release date.
Following a recent tease from Ed Boon on Twitter that gave us our first look at Homelander in action (which some fans weren't all that happy with), we've finally been given another look (and listen!) at the upcoming guest fighter for Mortal Kombat 1. The very short trailer was shared at CCXP Mexico and then released by the official Mortal Kombat accounts.
Although we don't get to see what Homelander actually looks like during gameplay, we do see a ton of references to The Boys within the trailer. The first is during his outro, which shows him sipping on a little bottle of milk just like he does in the show. And yes, it's just as unnerving here as it was there.
One of the best details of the trailer is that, before selecting Homelander on the select screen, he's shown creepily posing for the cameras. Very in-character.
We then get the reveal of what everybody's been waiting for - Homelander's voice. We only get a few lines from him and it's said with a menacing snarl, but it doesn't quite sound like Antony Starr, so it seems like the rumours were true that he isn't returning for the character and has someone imitating his voice.
After that, we get a few quick shots that reveal that Homelander's Fatalities will be, unsurprisingly, references to The Boys. The first has him blowing a hole through someone's head, while the other shows him throwing someone into the sky and into an airplane, which is something that players have predicted would be the case for a while now.
The trailer sadly doesn't reveal when Homelander is going to be coming to Mortal Kombat 1, but considering the YouTube description points out that the next season of The Boys releases in July, it seems likely that NetherRealm is going to be aiming for

Released by Midway Games in 1992, nothing could prepare us for Ed Boon and John Tobias’ Mortal Kombat – a video game that dominated arcades and consoles seemingly out of nowhere, knocking Street Fighter 2 off its perch as the best fighting game around. Like parents with their children, everyone has their favourite – even if they won’t always outright admit to it. The debate about the best characters (or should we say kharacters?) has caused many friendships and relationships to end, so we’re putting together a comprehensive list of the best of the best in the Mortal Kombat franchise to generate even more heated discussion among the fanbase.
Avowed anime afficionado Megan Thee Stallion dropped her new video for “BOA” on Wednesday, delivering a love letter to her nerdiest late-’90s and early aughts influences. That includes no shortage of shout outs to Scott Pilgrim, One Piece, Dance Dance Revolution, and the 3D fighting games of the era.
The latest Mortal Kombat 1 update adds Mavado to the roster of Kameo fighters and fixes several issues with the game experience and the moves of some fighters. Mavado joins Mortal Kombat 1 shortly after Ermac. Both fighters are available to players who own Kombat Pack 1 or the game's Premium Edition, but it's also possible to purchase them separately.
Like previous entries in the series, Mortal Kombat 1 is rolling out plenty of DLC fighters, with the game’s first “Kombat Pack” so far serving up Omni-Man from Invincible, Quan Chi, Peacemaker from Suicide Squad, and Ermac. And now NetherRealm Studios has provided a first peek at the second-to-last Kombat Pack fighter – Homelander from the Amazon series The Boys.

NetherRealm has released the first trailer for Mortal Kombat 1’s next DLC character, Homelander from The Boys. It’s pretty faithful to the character (right down to the milk), but that’s not all fans have to look forward to. On Twitter, director Ed Boon also teased the addition of character skins based on the 1995 Mortal Kombat film.
Last year, months before Homelander was even revealed, Antony Starr confirmed that he wouldn't be voicing his iconic The Boys character in Mortal Kombat 1.
