Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.) had a few things to say Thursday morning about what the federal government should be doing to tame AI, but first he had to wait through an uncanny opening act: AI versions of himself.

Ermac and Quan Chi are not playable in Mortal Kombat 1, despite featuring heavily in the story mode. You even fight them several times. We'll have to wait for paid DLC for them to join the roster, but modders have already been hard at work accessing their story versions. At the end of September, ermaccer fittingly made Ermac playable, and now, they have Quan Chi working too.
This was shown in a video by tgtkai in which they not only play as Quan Chi, but other story characters like the Tarkatan experiments. Getting to play them hands-on shows that they aren't finished, which is why they weren't included on the roster at launch. Ermac uses a variation of Noob's stance and kombos from MK11, while Quan Chi appears to be based on Shang Tsung.

This is made possible by ermaccer's MK1Hook mod, a plugin that removes the 30fps lock from supermoves, intros, and menus, introduces a speed modifier, and lets you freely control the camera. While a lot of these tools are incredibly useful, it's the "character modifier" part of MK1Hook that stands out, as it lets you play as NPCs, AKA the unplayable characters from other modes.
As the two are clearly unfinished, there are no fatal blows. Quan Chi and Ermac's story mode versions were not designed to be playable, made abundantly clear by modders, but a new version of them will be part of the first Kombat Pack. As revealed before MK1 had even launched in July of this year, Homelander, Takeda, Quan Chi, Omni-Man, Ermac, and Peacemaker will round out the first expansion.
In previous games, each character has been sold individually, so we can likely expect the same here. However, we don't know what they'll cost. In MK11, characters sold individually for £4.99, while Kombat Packs went for £15.99. MKX sold characters for £4.49. Perhaps we'll see similar pricing, though it has increased over the past two games, so it could again.
This isn't the only mod ermaccer has released over the past couple of weeks. At the start of October, they added a way to play Mortal Kombat 1 in first-person. Expectedly, it's nauseating, especially since you have to watch those gory Fatalities up close and personal rather than from the safe distance of a panning camera.
I'm not much good at Mortal Kombat, let alone when the camera is frantically spinning around as Johnny Cage twirls to kick enemies, so I'll stick with the default view.
At the least, it's a fun distraction while we wait for the first wave of DLC, but there's still no word on when it will start. Hopefully, Ermac and Quan Chi will be with us properly soon.

An accidental posting from Xbox might have revealed when gamers will get their hands on Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1! You’ll find the listing from Xbox in the tweet below, but in essence, the post on the official store page for the game on Xbox systems says that Omni-Man will be released on November 6th to those with “early access.” What precisely that means is up in the air, but regardless, we could be getting the Viltrumite warrior in the game sooner than expected. But before we go any further, it should be noted that NetherRealm Studios hasn’t confirmed this release date, and “leaks” like these have been misconstrued in the past.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set in a new timeline written by Fire God Liu Kang, which means certain relationships and identities have changed. Kuai Liang is now Scorpion, Mileena and Kitana are sisters, and Tarkatan is a disease, not a people. That leaves the question of where the Kombat Kids fit in, but leakers may have found the answer in datamined DLC voice lines which were proven true by the Omni-Man trailer.

Omni-Man of Invincible fame is coming to Mortal Kombat 1 in November as part of the Kombat Pack, and now the first official gameplay and cinematic footage has been released. Mortal Kombat 1 had been teasing, and not teasing, various things that they would show at New York Comic Con. Ed Boon himself deconfirmed several things that wouldn’t be shown at the convention, and many felt this meant we wouldn’t get any look at the upcoming DLC characters for the game via its first Kombat Pack. However, NetherRealm Studios DID show something from the Kombat Pack at the show: the first look at Omni-Man! His inclusion in the game had long been rumored before it was officially confirmed alongside other key DLC characters, and his “first look” trailer shows just how brutal things will get.
Mortal Kombat 1's upcoming DLC character, Omni-Man, has received his own first-look trailer, showing off a selection of vicious attacks and appropriately bloody finishers.

The villainous character will be available as a standalone fighter in November, accessible to those who bought the Premium Edition of the game or the Kombat Pack DLC separately. Actor J.K. Simmons is also reprising his role and voicing Omni-Man for Mortal Kombat 1.
