Mojang has updated Minecraftmany times to expand on its foundations. While the game has remained the same concept, biomes have been overhauled, new mobs and blocks have been added, and some resources have been expanded upon. With all these changes, some players continue to revisit worlds they created many years ago. This allows gamers to feel nostalgic about where they were in life when they generated the Seed while they expand on what's already there. One player has made a lengthy video detailing aspects of their World that have changed since 2010.
Reddit user Bmach recently shared a clip of the evolution of their Minecraft city that was started 14 years ago, dubbed Newisle. An island chain was connected via a big castle to set the foundation for Newisle. A subway line was then established to make transporting resources between locations easier, with the area starting to resemble a city that can be seen across a great distance in 2011. A rail line was then built to simplify getting around the massive towers, personal references, and art installations. After taking a break from the game in 2013, the gamer returned to expand their city into surrounding areas, with some towers resembling modern architecture like other Minecraft builds.
Terraforming quickly became a top priority for Newisle, with mountains, rivers, and fresh waterfront areas added to the city. The Newisle Seed was released to the public in 2016, and it got a lot of attention, according to Bmach. With this recognition came some players that destroyed the city which inspired the Reddit user to modernize older areas of their map while continuing to expand. Version 2.0 was subsequently released in 2019. In 2020 and 2021, the gamer added unique Minecraft Easter eggs and city landmarks like docks, fire halls, stadiums, and an airport. The video concludes with a montage of incredible Newisle builds and a hint that the city continues to be updated to this day.
The Reddit user has confirmed that this city was made in Minecraft Creative mode after a brief stint in Survival. Given how many resources would have been required to build the current version of Newisle, it's unlikely that it would've gotten so massive outside of Creative. Though the Reddit user has teased updates to their map and Newisle remains active, it's currently unclear when the next iteration of it will be made available.
