Mid-game pop-up ad appears in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey; Ubisoft blames technical error

Ubisoft recently dropped a five minute gameplay overview for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is the latest entry in the long running Prince of Persia action-adventure series, this time in 2.5D.

The developer of co-op shooter GTFO, 10 Chambers, has just released a trailer at The Game Awards 2023 for its brand-new game, Den of Wolves. 

GTFO developer 10 Chambers has announced its next title. Dubbed Den of Wolves, the studio’s next game will also involve 4-player co-op, but rather than focusing on horror like GTFO, it will instead be a heist game. Check out the trailer below.

The Den of Wolves trailer at The Game Awards first announces that we're looking at a new game from from the creator of Payday: The Heist and Payday 2, but then goes on to show something that has very little resemblance to a bank robbery: a pair of men growling at each other in a sci-fi dungeon that could've appeared in Cyberpunk 2077. So, what the heck is this game? As implied by the Payday connection, Den of Wolves is a four-player co-op game from 10 Chambers, the Stockholm-based studio co-founded by Payday 1 and 2 designer Ulf Andersson. But it's Andersson's vision for, like, Payday 5. Rather than present-day burglaries, Den of Wolves takes place in 2097 in a city run by unregulated corporations who've secured their global stock exchange against AI-powered hackers by somehow using biological encryption—that is, living human brains. It's a heist game inspired by Inception, The Matrix, Ghost in the Shell, and Blade Runner—in short, «mindfuck sci-fi,» as Den of Wolves narrative director Simon Viklund (also a Payday alum) put it to me when we met last week. The twist in The Game Awards trailer gives us a glimpse of what he's talking about, as the corpo's interrogation of some punk's subconscious is revealed to actually be the opposite. Clearly we're going to invade some mind palaces in this thing. I didn't get to see any Den of Wolves gameplay beyond the snippets of shooting everyone can see in the trailer, but Viklund spoke at length about the studio's vision during a presentation and interview.

Following the fascinating and horrifying co-op shooter GTFO, developers 10 Chambers today announced their second game, a cooperative sci-fi heist 'em up named Den Of Wolves. Expect corporate espionage, sabotage, assassinations, and more in a futuristic island city. Oh, and meat computers? Lovely. Learn more in the announcement trailer, below.

In a statement, League of Geeks—developers of Armello, the upcoming Solium Infernum, and Jumplight Odyssey—have stated that they’ve had to “say goodbye” to over half their staff. As a result, Jumplight Odyssey, a game that’s currently in Early Access, is being placed on indefinite pause.

Doom scrolling social media looks to have replaced the age-old pasttime of watching TV in GTA 6, which has prompted feelings of alternating despair and increasing irrelevance in me this morning. I barely understand how TikTok works in real-life, let alone a video game pastiche of it, and oh god, how did I get so old and craggy? I'm just here for the nice-looking flamingos, Rockstar, not a 24/7 twerk stream I can access from the palm of my hand. Of course, TV watching may yet have been preserved beyond what we've seen so far in the first trailer for GTA 6, but even if it's been consigned to the bin of modern history, there might yet be one light in the TikTok-esque darkness to make GTA 6's in-game social media network worthwhile.

The iPhone has relied on Apple’s computational photography techniques for years, and one would assume that the company’s algorithm for image processing would only improve with time until a woman posed in front of a mirror wearing her wedding dress. The captured result shows that the person in the image looks different than her own reflections, indicating errors in Apple’s processing techniques.

Ubisoft is still to officially confirm the Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition, but people are now playing the game after an apparent slip-up saw it briefly available via subscription service Ubisoft+.
