French publishing giant Ubisoft has said a technical glitch was to blame for players seeing in-game adverts in its Assassin's Creed titles.
In a statement to Eurogamer, the publisher said that this issue has now been fixed. Players took to social media last week to complain about the fact that trying to load up the map in Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey brought up an advert for a Black Friday promotion for the recently-released Assassin's Creed Mirage.
"We have been made aware that some players encountered pop-up ads while playing certain Assassin's Creed titles yesterday," an Ubisoft rep said.
"This was the result of a technical error that we addressed as soon as we learned of the issue."
Ubisoft has cross-promoted Assassin's Creed games for years now, but this would be the first time that such a promotion has taken place in-game.
