Microsoft dismissed Baldur's Gate 3 as a 'second-run Stadia PC RPG' before it released—Larian doesn't blame them

Several elements of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 have leaked online ahead of the sequel's release next week, including boss fights and suits. 

While most Baldur's Gate 3 players are still blissfully making their way through Larian's lavish and expansive world, others are taking it upon themselves to do the essential work of memeing its memorable cast of characters.

Larian have released a new Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix - lucky number seven - which fixes several crash bugs while also stopping characters and items cloning themselves when you move between levels, under certain conditions. Gosh, I do love patch notes for massive CRPGs. Even the relatively minor ones read like failed alchemical experiments plucked from a mage's workshop, like the one you find behind [REDACTED] in [REDACTED] in Baldur's Gate 3 Act [REDACTED].

One of the first conflicts to appear in Act 3 of involves a trio of squatters and an angry homeowner, and it's a uniquely difficult situation to resolve. Arriving at the outskirts of the titular city of Baldur's Gate makes it clear just how much the problems caused by the Absolute have spread, as the city is dealing with a refugee crisis that has its citizens divided. Although the squatter trouble is only one small part of that struggle, it presents a uniquely personal situation for the party to involve themselves in if they so wish.

Many are still reeling from the number of leaked emails that came out this week highlighting the “mindset” of Microsoft, Xbox, and one of its leaders, Phil Spencer, on various issues. The leaked emails, which sometimes spanned years, talked about all manner of topics within the gaming industry and without. But the one we wish to focus on right now is Baldur’s Gate 3. The game is one of the biggest hits of the year and one of the biggest surprises of the year in terms of success. It currently is the best-reviewed game of the year on Metacritic and has done very well sales-wise.

The success of Baldur’s Gate 3 came as a surprise to many people. This includes developer Larian Studios, with concurrent player counts surpassing 800,000 players on Steam. It also seemed to surprise another big name in the industry, Microsoft.
