Earlier this year, Konami provided a first teaser for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, their remake of the classic PS2-era game, and while it offered some eye-catching imagery, it was short on anything resembling gameplay. Well, today during the new Xbox Partner Preview showcase, Konami provided a new look Metal Gear Solid Delta, showing off actual in-game environments. It’s hard to say if this qualifies as “gameplay,” but it’s in-engine as does show Big Boss doing various Metal-Gear-style things. Speaking of engines, it’s also confirmed that MGS Delta will be running on Unreal Engine 5, rather than the Fox Engine that powered past games in the series. Check out the trailer for yourself, below.
I know it’s always a good idea to be skeptical about anything Konami is doing, but… that looked pretty good, right? Plenty of detail, and it looks to really capture the look and feel of the original Metal Gear Solid 3. I would still like to see how they’ll be handling cutscenes though.
For those that haven’t been keeping up, Metal Gear Solid Delta is being developed by a team at Konami itself, with support from Chinese port specialist, Virtuos. Whether that bodes well is hard to say – Virtuos has done some great port and remaster work in the past. They’ve also done some not-so-great port and remaster work. We shall see what we get here. Here’s a brief official description of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater…
"Discover the origin story of iconic military operative Snake and begin to unravel the intricate plot of the legendary Metal Gear series. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater brings unprecedented new graphics, immersive stealth action gameplay and sounds to its riveting story as players once again return to the world of Metal Gear."
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. A release window has not been confirmed. What do you think? Impressed by this new trailer? Ready to tackle one of the most iconic Metal Gear Solid games again, or do you not particularly trust Konami with this remake?
