Metacritic Has Unveiled The Worst Video Games Of 2023

Three decades ago, a pair of infamous Legend of Zelda spin-offs hit an obscure platform known as the Phillips CD-i, and while Nintendo would prefer that you forget they ever existed, they've inspired one indie developer to create a brand-new game in their style.

Developers making games featuring dwarves are uniting to try and get their own tag on Steam.

Over three decades have passed since Tetris made its debut on the NES in 1989. Since then, a holy grail has lied just out of reach—the «true killscreen». Now, a young prodigy has managed to reach it: after 34 entire years, a flesh-and-blood person has finally beaten Tetris.

I haven't played Monster Sniper Season 3—no one has yet, except its creator—but I can already tell you it's the worst game ever made. That's not a value judgement; it's the stated goal of the project.

The player-voted Steam Awards have reached their conclusion, and the results are about as weird as the nominees. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that the weirdest game possible won in several categories, such as Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Labor Of Love award and Starfield for "Most Innovative Gameplay".

One of 2023’s biggest cinema trends was the way accomplished filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Greta Gerwig, Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, and many more delivered some of the most creatively and commercially successful work of their careers. There was just something in the air this year, as one major artist after another took big swings that connected.

2023 has been full of big name games making big splashes, from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Baldur’s Gate 3 to… Redfall. That’s right, while this year might have had some huge hits, it was also one full of truly eye-popping misses – in fact, IGN published more game reviews with a 4 out of 10 score or below in 2023 than any year since we switched to the 10-point scale by more than double, including our first 1 in about a decade. High highs were coupled with low lows, and all those nostalgic remakes and sequels came alongside a different sort of blast from the past thanks to a slew of underwhelming licensed games, be that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Skull Island: Rise of Kong, or The Walking Dead: Destinies.

Combine Disney with a trading card game and you end up with something pretty darn popular. Who'd have thought? Lorcana's first set - the aptly-named The First Chapter - officially launched this year, and even though its second wave has arrived since then, products in The First Chapter have remained hard to come by. Disney did promise a reprint for collectors in the US before the holidays though, and it seems that reprint is here with only a few days to spare.
