Master Chief actor doubles down on decision to remove his character's helmet in Halo TV show: "There’s no point discussing it"

If you noticed that there hasn’t been a ton of hype or buildup to the return of the Halo TV Series on Paramount+ ever since the Season 2 trailer dropped, there’s a reason for that. While many were curious about what the adventures of Master Chief would look like in Season 1, the results were FAR from what fans hoped for. Not only was the canon stepped on and sometimes mocked depending on how you looked at it, but the team behind the show admitted they didn’t play the games! They did so many things wrong in fans’ minds that said fans were stunned when Season 2 was announced.

Fans of World War II movies, and of the European air war in particular, may recall the 1990 film Memphis Belle, which told a highly fictionalized story of the first B-17 bomber crew to complete its 25-mission tour of duty over Europe. While that film got most of the technical aspects of air combat right, it was a swing and a miss when it came to its writing. Even with a young and lovable Sean Astin manning the ball turret, that didn’t stop producers from making crooner Harry Connick Jr. hum a few bars from the tail gun. Overall it was a mixed bag, relying on black-and-white stock footage and especially heavy-handed performances from David Strathairn and John Lithgow to get its point across.

Halo season 2 actor Pablo Schreiber responded to criticism about Master Chief's helmet being removed and explained why the show chose this approach. In Halo season 1, Schreiber's Master Chief removed his helmet during the first episode, breaking tradition with the games.

Many in the world today don’t like the idea of people talking negatively about another product, regardless of the medium. To a certain level, we can appreciate and respect that. After all, regardless of the result, it’s fair to assume that many people worked hard to create the thing you watched, listened to, or played. However, sometimes, things need to be called out so that it can be better in the future, and the Halo TV Series is an excellent example of that. The first season came out a while back, and it was blasted by critics and fans alike on multiple fronts.
