The Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PC port is currently in the works, and development will apparently be completed by the end of the current fiscal year, according to some leaked documents.
As reported on the Install Base forums by Aquamarine, the confidential documents that emerged online following the ransomware attack against Insomniac include a breakdown of the studio's PC ports budgets for already released titles and future games. The port of the second entry in the series will cost a total of $4.6 million, double the cost of the port of the first game, and will complete development in fiscal year 2024, meaning that it will be released sometime after April 2024. Given how Insomniac will give PC players the complete experience, it is likely the port will launch after every DLC is out on PlayStation 5.
While the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PC port will be the most expensive port for Insomniac once it releases, it will likely be surpassed in the future by the Spider-Man 3 port, which has an estimated cost of $7.0 million for fiscal year 2027.
Having been developed from the ground up for PlayStation 5, it is not surprising to see the doubled budget for the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PC port, and it will be very interesting to see how further the visuals will be pushed with it. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 feels like the perfect, albeit safe, evolution of the formula first introduced with the 2018 game. With a highly emotional story, much-improved traversal, great visuals and performance, and industry-leading accessibility, this sequel is very likely to win over most fans of the original. However, a bigger shake-up may be needed for the inevitable Spider-Man 3.
