DC heroes and villains have boasted plenty of iconic voice actors over the years, but one of the most legendary of all time is officially coming to the crossover fighting game . As a mashup of just about every sort of property under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella, is heavily oriented around having a character roster with a lot of appeal. The game was originally released in a beta state in 2022 before being temporarily shut down in 2023, with a May 28, 2024, release date set for its return.
As announced on the official X (formerly Twitter) account, Batman's iconic nemesis, the Joker, is coming to the game in time for its impending launch, and the included teaser features Mark Hamill's unmistakable voice in the role.
Although Hamill might be most famous for his role as ' Luke Skywalker, a long tenure as the Joker is another significant feather in his cap. In the reveal, he tosses a bit of one-sided banter at Batman and delivers his signature laugh.
From major AAA releases to high-profile indies, May 2024 will see the release of a huge variety of titles catering to all kinds of players.
Mark Hamill's Joker is strongly identified with its typical counterpoint in Kevin Conroy's Batman, who both stepped in to voice their respective characters in 1992 with the first season of. The duo regularly re-teamed over the years in both animated media and video games, with Rocksteady's games being another standout. After Kevin Conroy's passing in 2022, Hamill confirmed that he would probably step away from the role, a move that's hard to take any quarrel with.
The case of is a bit different, however, as Kevin Conroy provided lines for Batman in time for its beta release. Hamill's inclusion was likely in the works around the same time, even if the Joker didn't make it into the beta round. is likely the final pairing for the two, so the appearance of Hamill's Joker rounds things off nicely for an iconic legacy.
The Batman: Arkham series has arguably been in decline since the release of Batman: Arkham Knight, and Suicide Squad: KTJL continues this trend.
might not be as exciting for Batman fans as another dedicated project with Conroy and Hamill would have been, but it could still be a fun addition overall. Banter plays a big role in fighting games, and hearing the two fling barbs back and forth for one last time is certainly a welcome surprise. Even in an era where IP-smashing is starting to get a bit stale, Hamill's Joker interacting with characters spanning a gamut from to will probably result in some memorable zingers, giving an extra dash of appeal.
