Veteran Sony executive Connie Booth exited PlayStation after a 30-year career at the firm, a surprising move that caused some confusion late last year after outspoken God of War creator David Jaffe let the cat out of the bag on social media. We still don't have the full details on her departure or whether the split was amicable, but we do know where Booth will end up next. The illustrious exec has accepted the very impressive-sounding title of Group General Manager, Action RPG, at EA.
In an exclusive statement secured by IGN, EA Entertainment Head Laura Miele announced the news, revealing that Booth's portfolio of studios will include EA Motive (Iron Man), Cliffhanger (Black Panther) and BioWare (Dragon Age, Mass Effect). Booth will report directly to Miele and help EA lead its studios through its ongoing restructuring, where her expertise will no doubt prove invaluable.
«Connie spent more than 30 years helping to build Sony Interactive Entertainment's internal studios and is responsible for guiding the development of some of their biggest franchises, including Marvel's Spider-Man 1 & 2, The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, to name just a few,» said Miele.
The EA executive continued, praising Booth personally: «I have known Connie for many years and have always been impressed by her love and commitment to games. She has an impeccable reputation within the development community and will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our games… She is known for having created an incredible developer-first culture and supporting creative vision while driving innovation.»
Bringing Booth on board is a significant coup for EA, which could use someone of that calibre to help drive the direction of critical franchises, specifically Mass Effect and Dragon Age. We draw attention to her unbelievable resume wherever possible, which now includes a Special Thanks for her contributions to 2024's current dark horse GOTY contender, Helldivers 2, as further proof of her prowess.
«We're thankful for Connie's numerous contributions»
What do you think of Connie Booth's new gig? Are you surprised to see her end up at EA? It doesn't seem like she is done with the games industry by a long shot, so what does that say about her split with Sony? Theorize widely in the comments section below.

Seems good for BioWare.
Dragon Age needs to be good and they seem to need help.

Sony likes to put on major State of Play livestreams and host its PlayStation Showcase during the month of May, and it appears the company is gearing up to do so once again in 2024. Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb reports he's heard «a bunch of times» from sources that Sony is planning an event for May, and it sounds more like another big PlayStation Showcase rather than a more subdued State of Play.
Sea of Thieves sails into uncharted waters on 30th April, when the formerly Xbox-exclusive pirate simulator catches stranger tides and arrives on PS5. In terms of performance, it will offer parity with the Xbox Series X version (60fps, 4K), and for those jumping ship or turning coat, Xbox players can transfer their progress and items over to PlayStation.
Dave the Diver team Mintrocket has today announced the PS5 and PS4 versions of its 2023 indie hit will release on 16th April 2024, and they'll be available straight away via PS Plus Extra also. Current members of Sony's subscription service will be able to download and play the game without charge, granting them access to the original experience and a bit of Godzilla-themed DLC in May.
Sony president Hiroki Totoki will today step into his new role as PlayStation CEO following Jim Ryan's retirement after a more than 30-year tenure at the company. While retaining his duties across the wider business, Totoki's main objective will be to aid the search for a true successor to Jim Ryan while defining «the next chapter of PlayStation's future».
The all-but-official PS5 Pro has been a prominent talking point over the last couple of weeks, especially with leaked specifications and the like only adding fuel to the fire. But from our perspective, it's starting to seem like Sony has a fairly hard sell on its hands — even if the mid-gen upgrade ends up being aimed squarely at hardcore PlayStation fans.
Today marks the end of Jim Ryan's 30-year tenure at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Having climbed the ladder of the company all the way to the top, his five-year stint as CEO has now drawn to a close, with Hiroki Totoki temporarily taking over until a permanent replacement is found. Speaking on the latest Official PlayStation Podcast, Ryan has one last interview, in which he comments on the platform's evolution, his career, and his thoughts on the PS3 boomerang controller. It's worth a listen.
LEVEL-5’s soccer RPG series Inazuma Eleven will make its PlayStation debut later this year, when new entry Victory Road arrives. But before then, a crossplay beta test will kick-off around the world, giving fans their first taste of the title. Said beta will launch first on Nintendo Switch from 28th March, but while there’s no date attached to the PlayStation version, we probably won’t have to wait long.
Earlier this week, we brought you word of a dangerous paranoia sweeping the ranks of Helldivers 2 players who, perhaps not getting enough sleep, have convinced themselves that operatives of an alien faction known as The Illuminate already walk among us. Well, if that sounds ridiculous, you'd best sit down for this next one: For the first time in recorded history, footage of so-called «flying bugs» has been captured, a rare mutation allowing Super Earth's oldest enemy to take to the skies, presenting Managed Democracy with an all-new threat — from above.
