While the focus is very much on Baldur's Gate 3 right now, developer Larian Studios has promised a return to its original fantasy universe, but after a well-earned break. The studio earned its spurs in the eyes of RPG fans with the Divinity: Original Sin series (mostly on PC), beginning something of a roleplaying renaissance with the almost-universal acclaim garnered by Divinity: Original Sin 2 in particular. It's been working on BG3 since 2017, in some form or another, and the results are intimidating in the best way.
D: OS2 had the happy addition of being a commercial success beyond the Belgian developer's expectations, which helped to catch the all-seeing eye of Wizards of the Coast. That entity holds the rights to the official Dungeons & Dragons license, the holy grail of fantasy roleplaying settings, but most crucially of all, is the keeper of the keys to the long-dormant and legendary mainline Baldur's Gate series.
Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn is a nearly flawless RPG on the level of a Chrono Trigger in terms of impact. The kind of unique gaming confluence that comes around but very, very rarely. If this is all news to you, and you're wondering why your venerable gaming elders are so animated all of a sudden, it's because the stars appear to be aligning once again.
Knight Commander Swen Vincke (who seems like a fun boss) recently sat down with IGN to discuss an eventual return to Rivellon, stating:
“It's our own universe, so we're definitely gonna get back there at some point. We'll first finish this one [Baldur's Gate 3] now and then take a break because we will need to refresh ourselves creatively also. You’re seeing 400 developers putting their hearts and souls into this. You’re getting the best of them and their craft into this game. And so I can tell you, it's quite a thing.”

I wonder will the next Divinity Game be another prequel to Divinity 2 ego draconis or will it be sequel?
I’m not even an old skool rpg fan and I thought divinity 2 was GREAT. Trouble is I’m not that good and my party build started to unravel deep into the second act. Then I fell off. Do wish I’d been able to complete it. Wonderfully rendered world-building in that game!

Larian Studios was quick to take action after allegations surfaced that some of Baldur’s Gate 3’s translators were not properly credited on the game.
You might've heard that Larian Studios is being sued over Baldur's Gate 3 being too good. It is 2023's highest-rated game, after all. But the lawsuit is a complete fabrication, stemming from a satirical TikTok video.
Baldur's Gate III is dominating the Steam charts with record-breaking numbers, surpassing the 800,000 concurrent player mark on August 6. To be precise, the peak count was 814,666, perching it as the ninth-highest ranking PC game, when sorted by all-time peak variable — right below Hogwarts Legacy. It's an impressive feat, considering the game had been out for nearly three years now, albeit in early access, which allowed developer Larian Studios to slow-cook it to perfection based on player feedback. The completed version of the game dropped August 3 on PC and has shown no signs of slowing down.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is proving to be a colossal hit for Larian, which undoubtedly means that many of you are completely new to the mysterious world of the Forgotten Realms. While our Baldur’s Gate 3 review can give you the lowdown on why it’s so special, there’s still a lot the RPG game doesn’t tell you that you need to be aware of. This goes for how you approach a game like Baldur’s Gate 3, and no, it isn’t quite the same as The Witcher or Skyrim – in no small part due to its D&D influences.
Baldur’s Gate 3, the Dungeons & Dragons-based role-playing game from Larian Studios, hit a peak of 814,666 Steam players on Sunday — the ninth highest ever recorded on the platform.
A week before the official full launch of Baldur’s Gate 3, a poll of more than 5,000 people on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit voted on what class and race they’re picking for their first playthrough. And to me, the results are surprising. There are 12 classes, 46 subclasses, 11 races, and 31 subraces to choose from in Baldur’s Gate 3 and all of them are interesting and exciting in their own ways. So, what are the most popular classes and races in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Technical issues with the Xbox Series S are preventing the game from coming to the Xbox family of consoles.
Baldur's Gate III might not release on Xbox platforms until 2024. That's according to Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian Studios, who tweeted out some issues on the platform, adding that the lack of a release date isn't due to some exclusivity deal. BG3's PC version is coming August 3, followed by a PS5 version on September 6, though there haven't been any updates for the Xbox Series S/X release. He attributes technical limitations to the lower-end Xbox Series S consoles, on which the studio is having trouble getting split-screen co-op working properly.
Larian Studios has revealed Baldur’s Gate 3 has an install size of 122 GB and that players can't preload any of it before the game's August 3 launch.
Ahead of the game's full release, Baldur's Gate 3 players are praising developer Larian Studios for the level of detail they're already seeing in the RPG.
Baldur's Gate 3 is going to be a very big game—in the neighborhood of 122GB, according to Larian—and it brings me no pleasure to inform you that you will not be able to preload any of it in advance of the August 3 release date.
