Stop me if you've heard this one before but, Kingdom Hearts fans are begging for some kind of update on Kingdom Hearts 4 now that it's been two whole years since it was revealed.
Two years ago, Square Enix dropped a bombshell on Kingdom Hearts fans when it confirmed during the 20th-anniversary event that Kingdom Hearts 4 was already in development alongside a new mobile game called Missing Link. As exciting as it was to have another mainline Kingdom Hearts game revealed so soon after Kingdom Hearts 3 (relatively speaking, at least), things haven't been active since
As reported by IGN, yesterday, April 10, marked the two-year anniversary of Kingdom Hearts 4 and Missing Link being revealed. Since that announcement, we've had little-to-no information on the games, with Tetsuya Nomura only revealing a few details about the fourth entry before moving on to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
To mark the occasion, Kingdom Hearts fans took to social media to point out just how long it has been since we last got an update on the game. One such popular post comes from Twitter user Dotted_Clouds, who shared an image of Yozora and Sora sitting at a news desk with the announcement that there is "no news".
The same sentiment can be found across Twitter and over on the Kingdom Hearts subreddit, with Redditor Leamax pointing out that it's been two years and they just want some kind of update on the game. Redditor Lightboy90 also reflected on how long it's been since the reveal, posting an image of Sora sleeping with the caption, "Dry season will be over soon, right?".
This isn't the first time this year that fans have begged for an update on Kingdom Hearts 4, as news was expected for the series' 22nd anniversary just a few weeks ago . Don't even get us started on Missing Link...
If you were a part of the Kingdom Hearts community during the long wait for Kingdom Hearts 3, then two years probably seems like a bit of a joke considering how long we all waited for that to release. That being said, though, it's worth remembering that we've barely had any side content or smaller games in that time, unlike the gap between Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3.
We honestly have no idea when Kingdom Hearts 4 is next going to be shown, as I would have pinned all of my hopes on the 22nd anniversary a few weeks ago. Summer Game Fest is the next big event that KH4 could show up at, and if it isn't there then there's always a chance that it makes an appearance at The Game Awards.
For now, though, it's worth keeping expectations for Kingdom Hearts 4 in check and just letting Square Enix cook until it does finally show up. Trust me, you'll be a lot happier that way.
