Amazon has given a series order to, an upcoming animated comedy series from Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert.
The series will follow the story of a housecat who “decides he doesn’t want to live with people anymore.” According to a report from THR, the series is loosely based on a real-life break-up between a couple, and the cat that was caught in the middle.
Wengert (Big Mouth) will write the series alongside Plaza, and will also serve as showrunner for the series. Plaza will also produce the project through her Evil Hag Productions banner, as will Dan Murphy, the author of the children’s books The Legend of the Christmas Witch and its sequel.
“I am extremely excited to be working with Amazon and my old friends Aubrey and Dan on this show,” said Wengert. “The real Kevin was with me during some of my lowest moments. This show is my chance to thank him — by creating a world where he can find less of a total bummer situation for himself.”
“We’re thrilled to be working with Joe and Amazon to bring this cat’s story to the screen. We can’t wait for the world to meet Kevin!” said Plaza and Murphy in a joint statement Thursday.
Plaza is no stranger to the world of acting, although she has dabbled in writing for a handful of projects. Her most recent writing credit came in 2021’s Cinema Toast series, which was an anthology show that took footage from public domain movies and spun them into new stories.
