January’s PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue and Classics titles revealed

Tekken 8 is on its way, and fans now have a sneak peek of the upcoming game’s Achievement and Trophy list. The latest installment in the long-running Tekken franchise launches on Friday, January 26th, introducing new mechanics and four new characters.

You ever get one of those awkward phone calls from your cousin that he and his family are in town and want to drop in for an unexpected house visit? Or your buddy texts you about arguing with their roommate, and they need to come over and cool down. However, three tiers are available for PlayStation Plus, so if you’re on the most basic tier, you’re missing out on access to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. This feature is reserved for those who subscribe to PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium. With it, you’ll gain access to a wide assortment of video game titles to enjoy. However, while the game service does provide players a means to enjoy a new collection of games added into the mix monthly, there is a collection of titles that end up getting tossed out.

Fans were just surprised with two exciting Tekken 8 trailers, one revealing the game’s opening cinematic and another showing off the returning character Lee Chaolan. The next chapter of Bandai Namco’s blistering 3D fighting franchise is now over a week away, and much of Tekken 8’s roster and premise have already been shown to the eager gaming public. Many fan-favorite characters from past entries are returning in Tekken 8, with one of the most recent ones highlighted being the warrior tombkeeper Zafina.

If you're a PlayStation 5 player, you have probably noticed the all-new PlayStation Plus tiers the company rolled out in recent years. The highest tier gets you get access to exclusive discounts, a selection of free current-gen games and the biggest selling point: the Classics Catalog. So considering it's over twice the price of the Essential tier, is it worth the extra cost?

Sony shared its upcoming PlayStation Plus free games for January on Wednesday. Headlining this month’s batch are Capcom’s 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake and the Borderlands spinoff Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can claim the 14 new games on January 16.

Resident Evil 2 leads the pack of new titles coming to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Deluxe/ Premium game catalogue, this month. Starting January 16, all higher-tier PS Plus members can head into their first day of work at the Raccoon City Police Department as the pretty boy rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy, only to be pit against hordes of flesh-eating zombies. As a remake of the original 1998 game, it features an additional pathway where you experience the story through the eyes of college student Claire Redfield, looking to reunite with her missing brother, before getting plunged into a conspiracy involving bizarre experiments and sinister corporations. Resident Evil 2 will be available to play on both PS4 and PS5.
