Indie RPG Sea of Stars Introduces a New Party Member in PS5, PS4 Launch Trailer | Push Square

Welcome to the weekend – and to another batch of recommendations of all the best new streaming releases. It's a big week for movies, with some of the summer's biggest hits now available to watch at home: Pixar's most recent release Elemental is now on Disney Plus and Fast X is now streaming on Peacock. In other movie news, El Conde, the latest film from Spencer and Jackie director Pablo Larraín, is now on Netflix, and recently released comedy Theater Camp is streaming on Hulu. 

Sony Pictures Virtual Reality and developer nDreams have announced that Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord will release for PlayStation VR 2 and Meta Quest 2 and 3 headsets just in time for Halloween on 26th October. Marking the announcement, here’s a brand new gameplay trailer from last night’s State of Play.

California, the biggest state in the US when it comes to both population and the sheer volume of tech companies squeezed into its borders, has just passed the country's most extreme right to repair bill in the US (via Ars Technica). It's the third state to pass such a bill, but goes further than either Minnesota or New York in that it forces companies to support their products for longer. But while it will cover gaming PCs and laptops, games console manufacturers get a free pass.

Meta has started rolling out its Meta Quest v57 update for its Quest virtual reality headsets. The update brings a range of new features and upgrades for Quest users such as unsending image messages, horizon feed, and more. But one of the most important feature upgrades to come from the update is an improvement to the avatar creator, as the company adds better customization options for users to fine-tune their appearance. Users will now be able to do a bunch of customization previously not possible such as adding highlights to hair, using a slider to pick a specific base hair color, and even choosing the color of your eyebrows. This was a feature many had asked for in the past and Meta has finally delivered.

Apple event 2023: Apple's highly anticipated 'Wonderlust' event is set to take place tomorrow, September 12, where the latest generation of iPhones, alongside the Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to be unveiled. This is the second Apple event of the year, following the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 which kicked off on June 5 when Apple revealed iOS 17, alongside the much-talked-about Apple Vision Pro. We could also see some surprise announcements tomorrow such as the Apple Watch Ultra 2, and AirPods 2nd Generation with USB Type-C. The fine folks over at Noclip are currently undertaking a huge restoration project, digitising hours and hours of gaming-related footage from a forgotten archive of tapes. If you hit up the YouTube channel, where all of this stuff is free to watch, you'll see old video game trailers, footage of cancelled projects, and old E3 press conferences. Sony's memorable E3 2006 presser has already been restored, and now, its presentation from E3 2010 is now available to watch in the best quality possible.

The Yakuza and Like a Dragon experiences are famed for including built-in side games that could probably exist on the PS Store all by themselves, and the upcoming Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name looks to be no different. Today SEGA has detailed what you can get up to off the main path, and it includes competing in the Coliseum, talking to some lovely ladies at the Cabaret Club, playing Pocket Circuit, and taking part in karaoke.

The new NFL season got underway overnight with the Detroit Lions narrowly edging out perennial favourites the Kansas City Chiefs, but if you have no interest in an American football simulator like Madden NFL 24, you may want to sit tight for Wild Card Football, which is due out on PS5 and PS4 in October.

Good news for Instagram Threads users! The search feature that was being tested in Australia and New Zealand is now spreading to many English and Spanish-speaking countries. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, the company behind Threads, shared this update. This means people in places like Argentina, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States can now use the basic search function in Threads.

We’ve known for quite some time that Sony, in its current guise, doesn’t care much for its core consumers – but overnight, it proved it. The platform holder nonchalantly announced price hikes to the annual tiers of its various PS Plus subscriptions – and these are significant jumps, not just minor alterations.

Sony’s previously announced Remote Play portable for PS5, the PS Portal, will officially launch on 15th November – as dated overnight. Pre-orders are open now in select countries via the platform holder’s own direct-to-consumer storefront, PS Direct. The manufacturer says pre-orders will open at other retailers on 29th September.

One of the worst-received PS Plus Essential refreshes has now arrived: Saints Row, Generation Zero, and Black Desert are available to download across the UK and Europe, with the USA set to join the fun later in the day. They are yours to keep for as long as you maintain a subscription to the base tier, and they'll be available for claiming until Tuesday, 3rd October 2023.
