Hyper Light Breaker Launches in Early Access This Summer

Publisher Gaijin Entertainment and developer Three Whales Studio will release post-apocalyptic online adventure game Age of Water for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on April 18, the companies announced. The console versions are newly announced.

When we sat down to chat with Chris Bullock, lead animator on open-world roguelike Hyper Light Breaker at developer Heart Machine, nobody had beaten its GDC demo yet. The show's recent demo was an exciting up-close look at what's quickly become my personal most-anticipated open-world game of the year, and Bullock's comments on some of the game's nitty-gritty details have only deepened my suspicion that it could be the biggest roguelike of 2024 in more ways than one. 

The PC version of free-to-play open-world adventure game Sky: Children of the Light will launch in Early Access via Steam on April 10, developer thatgamecompany announced.

Awaceb’s Tchia launched for PlayStation and PC via Epic Games Store in March of last year, and the developer, in conjunction with publisher Kepler Interactive, is ready to bring the game to wider audiences. The open world action-adventure title is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch sometime this Summer, Awaceb has announced.

Pathless Woods, a cozy open-world survival game inspired by ancient China culture and Byron’s poetry, will launch in Early Access for PC via Steam on April 3, publisher Spiral Up Games and developer AniYa Games Studio announced. A demo is currently available, and will be updated on March 23 to remove the online multiplayer feature that currently exists.

With its early access release window set, Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Breaker has received some new pre-alpha gameplay courtesy of Game Informer. Combat is the biggest focus against different enemies, but plenty of exploration is also showcased. Check it out below.

Procedurally-generated voxel factory-building and automation sandbox game FOUNDRY will launch in Early Access for PC via Steam on May 2, publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Channel 3 announced.

Xbox Game Pass has added another day one game, Lightyear Frontier,which is launching in early access on March 19. Developed by Frame Break, the indie game combines farming sim with mech gameplay, and adventurers can explore the colorful open world of Lightyear Frontier solo or co-op with up to three friends. Players will use their mech’s machine gun to plant seeds or equip it with a chainsaw to gather resources while establishing a homestead on a distant planet.

Hyper Light Breaker is a hoverboard sim. Technically, it’s a third-person roguelite adventure set in a luminous fantasy-cyberpunk universe, but after playing a 30-minute preview, it’s clear to me that Hyper Light Breaker is all about the hoverboard. Vicious beasts, secret alcoves and shiny weapons are secondary to the feeling of gliding over green hills and shallow waters on my glowing blue slab, finding joy in narrowly avoiding enemy encounters.

Heart Machine, the studio behind Hyper Light Drifter, has revealed that the next game in the series, Hyper Light Breaker, will be coming to PC as an early access title this summer, as reported by IGN. The game acts as a prequel to Hyper Light Drifter, and will put players in the shoes of multiple different characters.
