With its early access release window set, Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Breaker has received some new pre-alpha gameplay courtesy of Game Informer. Combat is the biggest focus against different enemies, but plenty of exploration is also showcased. Check it out below.
As The Breakers, players are on a mission to take down the Abyss King, but reaching him requires venturing to biomes and defeating bosses to activate beacons. Regular enemies can be crafty, including long-range foes that take the high ground while other units attack up close. Fortunately, you can seamlessly shift from a sword, dual daggers, and other melee weapons to ranged weaponry.
While movement is not as fast as Solar Ash, the design is geared towards combat in enclosed areas like Hyper Light Drifter. Interestingly, alongside a regular dash, there’s a combat dash for closing the distance on enemies. The former works more for evasion, while the latter is for continuing the assault on enemies. It’s worth noting that there is fall damage, so the glider is a necessity.
Hyper Light Breaker enters early access on PC this Summer, though its content has yet to be detailed. Stay tuned for updates and check out the different environments here.

Goblin Stone released almost a month ago, but we haven't written about it yet, and it feels like you should know about it. It's a turn-based RPG, it's a roguelike with permadeath, it's got XCOM-style base-building, its got card-based combat; it is extremely your sort of thing, if you're the exact statistical average of Rock Paper Shotgun readers.
Blizzard has noted that the Crafted Item Level on the 10.2.6 PTR is a bug and it will be fixed soon! We mentioned yesterday that Crafted gear is only Myth 2/4 at max quality on the PTR, when Season 3 was Myth 3/4. Blizzard has now mentioned that this is a bug and it will be fixed.
It looks like another one of Square Enix's age-old JRPGs is being lined up for the remaster treatment, giving heaps of new RPG fans the chance to play Saga Frontier 2 who might not have had the opportunity - or, you know, might not have been alive - in 1999.
As the first new mainline entry in Square Enix’s Mana series in nearly twenty years, Visions of Mana is a game that may have had their eye on since its announcement late last year, and excitement surrounding it has only grown with each new promising showing since then. Recently, a number of outlets had the chance to go hands-on with the action RPG, following which more new gameplay footage has emerged.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn has been delayed a couple of times on the road to launch, but with its release now drawn closer, developer A44 and publisher Kepler Interactive are continuing the rollout of new details and gameplay footage on the action RPG.
We're living in a post-E3 world, and that means basically everyone is having a crack at putting together video game showcases. The latest of these is the Triple-i Initiative, organised by some of the minds behind Slay the Spire, Dead Cells, and Darkest Dungeon, among others.
When we sat down to chat with Chris Bullock, lead animator on open-world roguelike Hyper Light Breaker at developer Heart Machine, nobody had beaten its GDC demo yet. The show's recent demo was an exciting up-close look at what's quickly become my personal most-anticipated open-world game of the year, and Bullock's comments on some of the game's nitty-gritty details have only deepened my suspicion that it could be the biggest roguelike of 2024 in more ways than one.
A few hours into my time with Dragon’s Dogma 2, I was struck by a critical question that appeared simple, but was unusually difficult to answer. It was this: Does the combat suck?
Developer Digital Extremes has released a new trailer for its upcoming multiplayer action RPG Soulframe, showing off a bit of gameplay in the process. The trailer, which you can check out below, shows off some pre-alpha gameplay.
Holstin is a psychological survival horror game that boasts a throwback pixelated aesthetic and a genuinely unsettling tone. Its latest trailer - which just dropped at the Future Games Show - shows off its seamless switching between first and third person in its isolated and haunted 90s Polish town setting, and, wow, it's as eerie as it gets.
Throughout my gaming history, few titles have offered the sheer scope and ambition of CAPCOM’s Dragon’s Dogma 2. Set to release on March 22, 2024, this highly anticipated sequel is currently poised to be one of the biggest RPG releases of the year – if not this generation. However, as a continuation of the 2012 cult classic Dragon’s Dogma, newcomers may find themselves grappling with several aspects that are deeply rooted in its predecessor’s niche appeal. Here’s our review of Dragon’s Dogma 2.
