Arrowhead Game Studios has released the first patch of the week for Helldivers 2, once again looking to patch up some crashes and improve the game’s embattled servers to help with Quickplay matchmaking, capacity and more. As always, though, the game servers are totally filled, with the now familiar “Severs at capacity. Please try again later.” error.
As has been consistent since the weekend, Helldivers 2’s servers max out with around 400,000 players on PC via Steam, with an unknown number of PS5 players on top of that. This seems to be the limit of what Helldivers 2’s current server architecture is capable of, but Arrowhead are making gradual progress to remove bottlenecks, improve the consistency for those able to get in, and are certainly hoping to increase capacity where it’s possible – there’s always going to be a tricky juggling act with databases, live servers and more, so it’s not just a case of spinning up more server instances.
In a message posted yesterday, Production Director Alex Bolle explained the plan for the week:
We have improvements rolling out this week focused on the most serious problems in the game: login, matchmaking, and server load. You will see one update for PC and PS5 tomorrow [Tuesday 20th], though please keep in mind that no single update will solve all the issues. Rather, we will be making continuous improvements over the days and weeks to come.
We’re all working hard to make sure that the game is a stable place to spread Managed Democracy to every planet in the galaxy.
Thank you as always, Alex B
Patch 1.000.10 has implemented a fix for quickplay matchmaking on PC, though notes that this can still struggle and fail on PS5. Should it fail, then there’s now an automated retry system. There’s also more general improvements to the client to backend communications to help with better server performance.
Also, as emerged with the recent in-game event to defend planets from the Automatons, the extract civilian mission was seen as being too challenging when compared to the variant against Terminids. This has been adjusted.
Here’s the full patch notes.

Nightingale was poised to become one of the more interesting and unique survival games released in 2024, but two weeks from launch, it's not doing great. User reviews on Steam are currently sitting at Mixed, and the game's player base has been slowly dwindling ever since launch, with a peak player count of a little over 10,000 compared to the game's all-time peak of just over 47,000 it racked up at launch a couple of weeks ago.

With the server woes largely behind them, Arrowhead Games has been able to shift their focus and release the first big balance update for Helldivers 2. Update 1.000.100 dropped like it was hot yesterday, and was immediately met with dismay and despair at how Arrowhead has tweaked the Breaker / Railgun / Shield meta that had dominated the game since launch.

Against The Storm is a roguelite city builder that features lizards and beavers, as they attempt to survive in a universe where it doesn't stop raining. We gave it a Bestest Best badge when it launched into 1.0, and since then the developers promised more major updates. Patch 1.2 is the latest of the bunch, and when it arrives next week it's bringing with it a "consumption/production" window, upgrades to the Blight Post, and lots of balance changes.
