Arrowhead Game Studios, the studio that developed the recently released Helldivers 2, is planning to expand the size of its team following the shooter's successful launch. The relatively small team of around 100 employees has been trying to address the many issues that have been plaguing its latest release.
Founded in 2008, Arrowhead Game Studios won the hearts of many with its debut title, Magicka, the quirky 2011 action-adventure game that allowed up to four players to journey through a world based on Norse mythology as a party of wizards. The studio has released The Showdown Effect, Gauntlet, Helldivers, and Helldivers 2 since then, with the latter being the company's biggest launch yet. As Helldivers 2 continues to gain popularity following its February 8 release, Arrowhead Game Studios has announced that it is set to take in more employees to aid with development.
In a Twitter post, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt said that his company will start looking for more developers who can help accelerate and beef up its content plans. The executive noted that job listings will be up soon, but he also said that senior developers are free to take the «open application» route. Arrowhead Game Studios has not revealed its roadmap for Helldivers 2, but Pilestedt has told fans that there will be «massive updates» for the Sony Interactive Entertainment-published co-op title in the future.
Since Helldivers 2's somewhat troubled PC and PS5 launch, Arrowhead Game Studios has dropped several updates to deal with the game's issues. These patches have mostly addressed stability and connection problems, but they also prepared the title for upcoming server and matchmaking improvements — a sound move from Arrowhead Game Studios considering Helldivers 2's rising popularity and growing playerbase.
Helldivers 2 has recently become one of Steam's most played titles, reaching more than 200,000 peak concurrent players following its release, according to data provided by SteamDB. For context, the original Helldivers, which was also well received, only reached around 6,700 peak concurrent players.
Part of Helldivers 2's appeal can be attributed to Arrowhead Game Studios' unconventional design principles. Pilestedt has made it clear that Helldivers 2 will never receive a PvP mode in an effort to reduce any toxic elements from the game's community. Helldivers 2 also has a fairly balanced approach to microtransactions, with items that can be purchased with real money having no noticeable impact on game balance. Additionally, Helldivers 2 players can earn the game's Super Credits premium currency just by playing the game — a feature that many modern titles lack.

Shocking absolutely no one, Helldivers 2's game director has confirmed that developer Arrowhead Game Studios is not being acquired by Sony.
No, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios isn't being purchased by PlayStation.
Arrowhead Studios previously announced that the team is working on a balance patch for co-op shooter Helldivers 2, but doing so has proven to be trickier than expected since weapons with higher kill rates don't always lead to successful missions.
As players fight tooth and nail to reclaim planets overrun by Terminids and Automatons, developer Arrowhead reveals that the intergalactic war is managed by only a single person. While the core loop involves running around alien planets and gunning down various enemies, there's a much larger scale meta-game at play that sees the community fighting to take control of several endangered planets. Given that opposing factions seemingly respond to player-led pushes, many assumed it was simply an automatic difficulty setting to make the experience more challenging.
The timing couldn’t be better. Just days after the Helldivers 2 community mourned the loss of fan-favourite map Malevelon Creek, it has emerged there is a single developer at Arrowhead pulling the strings of the galactic war like a D&D dungeon master.
Helldivers 2 doesn't follow a traditional mission structure. You're not going from level to level of increasing intensity until you reach the end, you're fighting alongside the community to liberate planets across a vast galaxy in an ongoing war dictated by a dungeon master.
A massive update for the Nintendo Switch port of Batman: Arkham Knight has just been dropped, but players have reported that the game still has many issues. Much like the original Windows release, the Switch port of Rocksteady Studios' beloved action-adventure experience suffers from numerous technical problems.
It’s fair to say that not even in their wildest dreams, Sony or developer Arrowhead Game Studios could have anticipated that Helldivers 2 would have enjoyed the level of success that it has. In spite of server issues and persistent connectivity problems that have only just now started easing up, the co-op shooter has attracted a sizeable playerbase.
Helldivers 2 players are running into a wide variety of cheats while playing the popular co-op shooter, including one that automatically gifts non-cheating squadmates massive amounts of Samples. This is an important form of in-game currency withinHelldivers 2 that dictates certain kinds of progression.
Ridgeline Games, a relatively new development studio owned by publishing giant Electronic Arts, has lost one of its founders. This comes after one of the studio's key figures also left in January and joined another game company.
The developer of Helldivers 2 has declared the weekend just gone a success, insisting the game’s servers handled all players “without problem”.
