Helldivers 2 story recap, plus free post-launch story updates confirmed

To borrow from Game of Thrones, Minter is coming (please read that in Ned Stark's voice). Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story — an interactive documentary experience for PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch — will release next month, on 13th March.

Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story, the second entry in Digital Eclipse‘s Gold Master Series, will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam on March 13, the developer announced.

2024 is the year of Need for Speed’s 30th anniversary, and developer Criterion Games has announced plans to commemorate the occasion- though not in a way that many would have expected. The developer has revealed that it will be supporting Need for Speed Unbound, which launched in November 2022, will be getting another full year of post-launch content.

6G connectivity is far from commercialization, but that is not stopping nations from carrying out a series of tests to gain an edge against other competing regions. Samsung, for instance, has been conducting tests of a similar nature, but this standard is not expected to go mainstream until 2030. Similarly, China Mobile does not see a 6G launch anytime soon, but that has not stopped the carrier from performing its own benchmarks through a satellite launch.

Sonic Dream Team has released its first post-launch update, fixing boss fights and introducing brand-new mission types. Sonic Dream Team is an Apple Arcade exclusive title that was released in December 2023, developed by Sega HARDlight. While HARDlight was responsible for a number of previous Sonic mobile games, like Sonic Forces: Speed Battle and Sonic Dash, Dream Team is the first full 3D platformer the studio worked on, featuring six playable characters and 12 levels across four zones.

Fighting games as a genre tend to be more prone to aggressive monetization than most other games, with the likes of Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 having served as recent prominent examples. So when Tekken 8 launched last month without any microtransactions, it came as a breath of fresh air. As many had probably anticipated though, it looks like that’ll be changing soon.

Helldivers 2 is off to a record-breaking start on Steam, with the game’s concurrent player count now eclipsing that of all other PlayStation PC ports combined.

It might not seem like it, but Tekken 8 has been out for a few weeks now, and gamers have been talking about it and showing it off ever since its arrival. You’ve likely seen memes of the various characters in numerous outfits to “imitate” certain classic characters from other franchises. It’s all rather hilarious. But they are also talking about the game in the gameplay/graphics sense, too, as the title has impressed pretty much everyone who has played it so much so that they are comparing it to the other fighting games from Capcom and Nether Realm Studios from 2023 to debate which was the best fighting game of the set.

Developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have announced plans for post-launch content that will come to Expeditions: A MudRunner Game. The announcement comes with a trailer showcasing all of the new content planned for the game after its March 5 release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

Xbox revealed its "vision for the future" today in a podcast featuring executives Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, and Matt Booty, who did their best to articulate the path forward for the platform amid reports of plans to embrace a third-party publishing strategy.

Lately, there’s been a rather disturbing trend in the video game industry from the developers/publishers. They tend to make video games that “aren’t complete” or “aren’t polished” by the time they launch, and then dedicate tons of time to trying to “fix it” in post-launch updates or try to have plenty of post-launch content announced before they even know if the main game will be a success. This has backfired on many teams, and it’ll continue to do so when the quality isn’t there. However, in the case of Helldivers 2, despite a few bumps at launch, they’re doing well on PC and are actively trying to bring in more people to help create more content for players as a result.

The demo for the anticipated fantasy role-playing game (RPG) Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be getting a visual update, which will also be applied to the main game on release.
