Helldivers 2 Overtakes Halo Infinite’s Peak Concurrent User Count on Steam

343 Industries releases a new trailer for Cyber Showdown 3 in Halo Infinite, a limited time mode that brings with it cyberpunk-inspired gear, cosmetics, as well as new content to check out. The winds of change are blowing for Halo Infinite in 2024, as developer 343 Industries announced a change in how it intends to deliver content. As Halo Infinite approaches its third birthday later this year, players will be seeing more content at faster intervals to hopefully keep players engaged with new content to check out.

Valve's Steam digital platform continues to grow in popularity. Just a couple of months ago, we reported that the store had set a new record with 33.6 million concurrent users.

Steam has been at the center of the PC gaming scene for pretty much as long as it has been around, and though competitors have certainly emerged over the years, Steam’s own position has only grown stronger as time has gone on. That continues to be the case even now, with the platform having set another record for itself.

Arrowhead Studios, the developer behind co-op hit Helldivers 2, has warned players about "fake" versions of the game and other popular titles after a wave of illegitimate copies hit Steam overnight. 

The campaign to defend a single planet, Mort, from Helldivers 2's encroaching Automaton threat saw players die "over 10 million" times in the past two days alone. 

When it comes to squad-based shooters or free-to-play games, you can generally count on there being premium paid content for players to fawn over. While Helldivers II isn’t free-to-play, being that there are two versions of the game and they both cost real money, it does offer a hefty amount of options for cosmetic character changes and upgrades.

After launching out of Steam Early Access, Eleventh Hour Games’ Last Epoch has achieved an impressive milestone. It peaked at 234,500 concurrent players recently, besting its previous record of 40,591 from March 2023, but that’s not all. The action RPG looter has achieved a higher peak on the platform than Path of Exile (211,637) and Diablo 4 (28,836).

While the majority of your success lies in which weapons and armor you carry when facing off against the Terminids and Automatons on various missions in Helldivers 2, you shouldn’t overlook what your ship can do to support you. Besides just naming your destroyer, there’s far more you can do to customize it with modules. Whereas weapons and Boosters will impact you and your squad on a more constant basis, ship modules come in clutch when you need to bring out the big guns, aka Stratagems. These power weapons are already enough to turn the tide of a tough fight, but when you add in the right ship modules, you’ll be cooking bugs for breakfast.

AHalo Infinite Forge group, known as the Forge Falcons, is working on a Helldivers 2-like game mode for Xbox's flagship franchise. Halo Infinite fans might recognize the group's name, which previously released the popular Inheritor Battle Royale mode.

Microsoft will bring four first-party titles to PS5, but it’s refusing to name which. Said titles will not include Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which will remain exclusive to Xbox and PC, until circumstances change. Xbox bigwig Phil Spencer, however, has seen the success of Helldivers 2 – and is struggling to see the advantage of the PlayStation-published shooter not being available on Xbox.

A week and a half ago, Helldivers 2 dropped on PC and PS5, and it’s been gaining quite a reputation.

One Automaton mission you could get in demands that you destroy enemy Fuel Silos and Stockpiled Ammunition structures on a robot-controlled world.
