Steam Passes Record-Breaking 34.6 Million Concurrent Users

There are few games out there that fit the bill of an evergreen experience better than Stardew Valley does. The beloved indie life sim game has grown massively in popularity in the near-decade that it’s been out, and incredibly enough, its graph is continuing to touch new heights even now.

It should be no surprise: Stardew Valley, despite being released in 2016, is still wildly popular. In fact, it’s more popular than ever. Following the Stardew Valley 1.6 update published yesterday, the farm-and-life simulator hit a peak Steam concurrent player count of 147,612 — that’s more than double the peak concurrent players at the game’s launch in 2016. Stardew Valley’s previous Steam record was just under 100,000 players after the 1.5 update launched in late 2020, according to SteamDB. Stardew Valley is the eighth most played game on Steam at the time of writing, just a few thousand players below Grand Theft Auto 5.

Steam has set yet another record for concurrent users online on its platform. Two weeks ago, it had surpassed 34 million concurrent users, and then the following week it hit 35 million. Yesterday, at 14:00 UTC, a new record was set when 36.354 million Steam users were online at the same time, as tracked by SteamDB. These continuous records clearly point to a healthy, growing platform, not just for Steam but for PC gaming as a whole.

Over the course of the first couple of months of 2024, Steam has seen several boosts in activity, which have seen the platforming hitting record-high peaks of concurrent users multiple times in the space of a few weeks. Recently, it hit another milestone on that front.

Steam set another all-time record for concurrent players on Sunday.

Stealth platformer Ereban: Shadow Legacy recently resurfaced with a new trailer, with developer Baby Robot Games announcing that the game will be launching for PC in April. It was announced at the same time that the game would no longer be published by Raw Fury, while the status of its Game Pass launch was also unclear.

Atlus has announced an Expansion Pass for Persona 3 Reload, which is going to bring Persona 3 FES’ The Answer as part of its third wave in the form of the DLC titled Episode Aigis -The Answer-. And similar to the base game itself, it turns out is DLC is also going to be available at no additional cost to Game Pass subscribers- well, some of them, at least.

Xbox Game Pass has added PAW Patrol World to its content library. The open-world action adventure is the second March 2024 addition to Microsoft's subscription service, as well as the fourth-ever PAW Patrol game to join Xbox Game Pass.

The first games coming to during March 2024 have been announced, and there are a few surprises to go with the expected day-one games. We already knew about the impending release of MLB The Show 24 and Lightyear Frontier, but there are a couple of older faces and others to keep the kids occupied.

Valve's Steam digital platform continues to grow in popularity. Just a couple of months ago, we reported that the store had set a new record with 33.6 million concurrent users.

The Xbox Game Pass catalog has expanded to include Maneater, a highly chaotic ARPG about disrupting the food chain in the bloodiest manner imaginable. This is the 13th title to reach Xbox Game Pass in February.

Free users of Nvidia’s GeForce Now will begin seeing ads on February 28. Nvidia’s subscription cloud gaming service launched in 2020 and is a good substitute or supplement for people who may not have the most powerful gaming rigs at home but still want to enjoy playing games with ultra settings. The GeForce Now catalog of games currently features nearly 2,000 titles ranging from indie to AAA and from a wide selection of genres.
