Arrowhead Studios has released a new Helldivers 2 trailer that’s all about the Galactic War campaign gameplay, detailing how missions work on a planetary and galactic scale. The co-op third person shooter is set to release for PS5 and PC on 8th February 2024.
Similar to the original, there’s a huge war raging across the galaxy, with the good guys fighting against just an absolute cluster of bugs and robots in the name of peace, freedom, democracy and Super Earth!
You’ll be one of the elite, the Helldivers, heading into battles across the war front either on your own or in co-op teams of up to four players, taking on special missions to further the war effort. You’ll choose your own missions from the War Table, picking an operation to take part in, dropping down to the planet and then having to complete a series of primary and secondary goals. These could be things like eradicating bug infestations, destroying enemy supplies, retrieving valuable data, launching missiles and more.
You’ll have both overarching missions for the entire game community to chip away at, as well as personal missions that raise your own prestige.
This game is really all about playing with friends, with Arrowhead’s specialty being co-op games with friendly fire very much turned on. That is a pretty dangerous combo when considering the over-the-top stratagems that you can use in battle. Mind where you’re pointing that thing!
In our review of the original Helldivers, whch was a top-down affair but with a pretty much identical theme and ethos, Dan wrote, “With seamless online matchmaking and drop-in local multiplayer, Helldivers is the complete coop game. After being left disappointed many a time by previous local multiplayer games the PlayStation 4 has had to offer, Helldivers is a breath of fresh air providing short bursts of explosive action that’s both strategic and enjoyable.”

It would appear that the studio behind Helldivers 2, Arrowhead, didn’t quite anticipate the massive surge in popularity the game received following its February 8 release date. With an all-time Steam peak of over 155,000 concurrent players, Helldivers 2‘s servers simply couldn’t keep up with the attention.
Helldivers 2's developer has doubled its player count following server issues, but says that it's "still not enough" to meet the demand.
Helldivers 2 has been a hit since it dropped on PC and PlayStation 5 last week. Perhaps more surprisingly, its monetisation is even receiving some praise, as many players are relieved to see it show some restraint, at least compared to other live services.
Helldivers 2 is yet another example of a predominantly co-op game being a victim of its own success. Since its launch, the servers have buckled under the weight of keen conscripts ready to exterminate some bugs. There's been frequent disconnects, matchmaking issues, and post-game rewards not showing up for some folks. But Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt has offered some comfort, saying that they've popped three hotfixes live to fix some of these issues.

Helldivers 2 proves that it's showing the Galactic War in real-time by letting you see other players using their Stratagems from your space station.
In light of player criticism from its use of the notorious GameGuard anti-cheat in Helldivers 2, developer Arrowhead Game Studios has released a statement explaining its use of the anti-cheat system, and especially why the studio went with the kernel-level GameGuard anti-cheat system.
Following its anticipated launch, Helldivers 2 has beaten God of War to become Sony's highest-played game ever on Steam. While Helldivers 2 features strong gameplay that attracts plenty of shooter fans, some users have grown frustrated after its rocky release, but this hasn't stopped it from outperforming other Sony heavyweights on Steam.
