Less than 24 hours after launching on Steam, the early access version of Hades 2 has already doubled the all-time peak concurrent player account set by the original Hades. While Supergiant Games certainly found success with its earlier titles like Bastion, Pyre, and Transistor, the studio really took off after it released the roguelike action title, Hades. Although Hades was originally an Epic Games store exclusive, it eventually launched on Steam a year later in 2019 through Early access, releasing Version 1.0 on September 17, before eventually launching across most other platforms like the Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.
Following its release, Hades quickly went on to receive universal acclaim from players and critics alike, earning countless awards and becoming a massive hit for Supergiant Games. However, many began to wonder what was next for the studio, who had established a firm track record of not developing sequels and instead changing genres for new games. As it turns out, Supergiant revealed it is breaking with tradition during the Game Awards 2022 by announcing Hades 2, a sequel to its hit game. The excitement from fans was made clear upon its release into Early Access, as a new milestone has already been broken.
Following a very successful Technical Test period, Supergiant Games launched Hades 2 into Steam Early Access on May 6 to the delight of many. While the first game certainly found its own success, Hades 2 has already crushed its all-time peak player count in a matter of hours. According to SteamDB, the stats tracking website for Steam games, Hades 2 instantly hit the trending games list after its launch, reaching a peak concurrent player count of 79,276 after only 9 hours of being available. In fact, Hades 2 has since gone on to topple that number, breaching 84,000 players early on May 7 and is likely to keep pushing that number forward.
While Hades was available on many platforms, the sequel has already reached impressive heights solely on Steam. The original game managed a peak player count of 37,749 on Steam, hitting that all-time number a year after Hades launched out of early access with its full release. Either way, Hades 2 has more than doubled that milestone in mere hours, even though it is technically not complete.
As expected, the launch of Hades 2 onto Steam is just the beginning of the journey. Supergiant is planning on releasing numerous updates throughout the year and has promised that, in addition to continue expanding the story, more characters will be added, mechanics tweaked, and other gameplay related changes will arrive. While players continue to debate whether to play Hades 2 in Early Access or wait, Supergiant is aiming to have the full version 1.0

Supergiant Games has released Hades 2’s first patch following its Early Access release last week.
As many an indie-game developer has already attested – Hades II’s stealth launch into Early Access caught a lot of people off-guard. But then why not start as you mean to go on? After all, surprise is one of the most important ingredients of a Roguelike. And when you’re making a sequel, springing such shocks becomes that bit harder.
Since Hades II launched in Early Access just over a week ago, developer Supergiant Games has been collecting feedback from players. Now, some of that feedback has been put to use in the game's first patch, and there are still more adjustments on their way.
Three of Square Enix‘s most high profile recent releases sold worse than expected, the company’s president has reportedly said.
Greek god pulverizing simulator Hades 2 is getting its first patch "later this month", say the developers. Two things are on their to-tweak list. First, something might change about the way resource gathering tools are used (the pickaxe you use to mine silver during a run, for example). Second, and perhaps more significant, is an upcoming change to the way Melinoë's dash and sprint work. We don't know exactly what that change is but, according to Supergiant, it has something to do with your witchy batterer's "distinct style".
Without any warning, Hades 2 has launched into early access on both Steam and the Epic Games Store for players to hack and slash through the levels.
The Early Access release of Hades 2 has already more than doubled the all-time peak concurrent player count of the first game on Steam.
Hades 2 is finally out now in early access, giving us all the chance to jump in and give protagonist Melinoe a spin for the first time. Of course, Hades 2 isn't fully feature complete yet, with multiple big updates planned for later this year and in 2025, so questions have been raised as to exactly how much Hades 2 we'll get to play before we hit a wall. Thankfully, developer Supergiant is on hand to clear that up.
Anticipated roguelike sequel Hades II was announced back in 2022, and we knew an early access launch was coming sometime in mid-2024, but a specific release date hadn’t been provided by developer Supergiant Games. Well, surprise! Following some technical tests, Hades II officially launches into early access… today! You can check out a new trailer for the early access version of the game, below.
