Turns out we didn't dream it, and Square Enix really is making a multiplayer shooter about foam. Yes, Foamstars is happening, and all jokes aside, it was pretty fun when we went hands on earlier this year. Soon, a lot more people will get the chance to check it out, as an open beta test is heading our way very soon.
While the game is launching on both PS5 and PS4, the open beta is taking place only on PS5. It's happening between 29th September and 1st October 2023, giving everyone a few days to join some matches and see what Foamstars has to offer. You won't need PS Plus to play the beta.
As for what will be included in the beta, we're getting access to all the characters available at the game's launch, as well as two modes. Smash the Star is a team deathmatch in which killing opponents turns one of them into a Star Player, who you need to kill before the timer runs out to win. Happy Bath Survival is an unusual deathmatch mode; players within an inner layer have to take each other out, while teammates in an outer layer have to help and hinder using foam-flinging weapons.
There's more information over on the PS Blog if you want to get prepared for the beta. Will you be taking this early look at Foamstars? Tell us in the comments section below.

Is this going to be free to play and/or in 1 of the 3 PS+ levels?
I'm just more curious than anything.
Glad they're having an open beta, I'm intrigued to give it a try but not holding out a ton of hope in it being something to write home about.
The game looked like slow motion Fortnite/Splatoon minus any fun.
I know this game got lots of hate but honestly of the multiplayer games Sony showcased I actually thought this looked the most promising of the bunch. The only problem is the beta comes out with Phantom Liberty and...well it will be tough to pull me off that for long. Still I think I'll at least try a few matches.
As someone with no interest in this (I don't play multiplayer).
I hope it has more interesting uses for the foam/level design. Or else who cares it's just Splatoon/Fornite and more bland and unoriginal then mechanics or modes. Yes I may not play it but doesn't mean I can't speculate how bland it's design could be and still hope it has interesting ideas.
Then I'd appreciate it more but still not play it just think about the great game design it can have and think more highly over it using them in a multiplayer format.
As many multiplayer ones I do go oh well that

NVIDIA has announced that its latest DLSS version 3.5 will be launching on September 21. It had previously revealed that DLSS 3.5 will, in fact, be compatible with all RTX cards to help provide a boost to titles including the updated Cyberpunk 2077. This includes Ray Reconstruction to help provide an even more beautiful and realistic experience for titles that support it. New AI-powered techniques will make their way to tensor cores across the board for NVIDIA RTX cards with the highlight being Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 at release. Ray Reconstruction will replace hand-tuned denoisers, which resolve sampled rays with a NVIDIA supercomputer-trained artificial intelligence network that will generate higher-quality pixels between sampled rays.
Polyarc has announced that the Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss, their strategic spin-off from the celebrated Moss series of VR games, will be into open beta next week on 26th September across Meta Quest 2 and SteamVR – other platforms like PSVR 2 will likely be coming down the line.

In case you missed the memo, Marvel's Avengers is leaving storefronts at the end of September. Square Enix's live service-centred superhero action game will be no more after about three years on the market, leaving PS Store on 30th September 2023 (though you can still play it after this date). However, as spotted by GamesRadar, you can at least check the game out in its final weeks on sale for a seriously reduced price.

Well, now we know what that trademark was all about! Announced during Sony's latest State of Play showcase, Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn is a full-on story-based expansion for Tales of Arise, the 2021 action RPG that we were really rather fond of. Beyond the dawn releases later this year, on the 9th November.
As confirmed by a delightfully moody trailer narrated by Stellaron Hunter (and key character) Kafka, the uber-popular turn-based gacha RPG Honkai: Star Rail will finally release on PS5 from 11th October. The small print at the end of the trailer mentions that the game is a PS5 console exclusive for a “limited time”, so presumably it will launch on other platforms later.
