Five Nights at Freddy's movie mauled by critics as 'not scary,' 'bloodless,' and 'puzzling'

Earlier this year, an officially endorsed Five Nights at Freddy's fan game called FNAF Plus was cancelled following controversy with its creator Phil Morg (who goes by Phisnom on Twitter and YouTube). However, the game lives on with an easter egg in the movie, as the office rules poster is lifted 1:1 from the never-released game.

The movie had a $20 million budget, so things are looking good.

Some of the toughest puzzles in The Talos Principle 2 are optional, but completing every Pandora statue will earn you stars that are crucial to unlocking the game's secrets.

One of the big complaints critics had with FNAF was its obsession with lore and deep cuts, making it inaccessible for those who haven't played the games. There's a pretty good example of just that lurking toward the end of the film with Golden Freddy, an animatronic that most people assumed was just... regular old Freddy.

Five Nights at Freddy's is chock full of Easter Eggs and references, from a Golden Freddy that went over most people's heads (myself included) to Dream Theory to... MatPat. Strange times. End credit scenes seem to be a big trend in movies today, especially horror, so it is no surprise that Five Nights at Freddy’s has some treats hidden in its final moments. Aside from the Five Nights at Freddy's post-credits scene starring Balloon Boy, the latter comes in the shape of a muffled Morse code-like message, letting the audience know that the story is not over, and even suggesting a possible sequel.

A video detailing MatPat's cameo in the Five Nights at Freddy's movie has revealed that Markiplier was supposed to play a security guard in the film, which ended up not happening due to scheduling conflicts.

After having helped popularize its source material, Markiplier's cut cameo details have been revealed by fellow YouTube gamer and movie star MatPat. An adaptation of Scott Cawthon's horror video game franchise about possessed murderous animatronics has been in the works for nearly a decade, having finally made its way to the screen with the creator onboard as a co-writer and producer and Blumhouse financing the project. Though garnering negative reviews from critics, is already a box office hit in its opening weekend with an impressive 89% approval rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
