One of the key writers in the Final Fantasy series has asked fans to stop demanding that he kill off characters they don’t like.
Kazushige Nojima is the lead writer on Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, but has taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to request that people stop trying to kill his creations.
“I write every character with love,” Nojima tweeted. “You are free to have any opinions or thoughts, but please stop sending me messages saying I should delete this character or even kill that one.
“I don’t want to block or mute too many of you, and I don’t want to lock my account.”
Nojima previously co-wrote the original Final Fantasy VII game, and went on to write Final Fantasy VIII, X and X-2, as well as the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children animated movie.
He also co-wrote the original Kingdom Hearts, and was the main writer on Kingdom Hearts II.
He returned to Final Fantasy VII to serve as story and scenario writer on Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – the latter is due for release on February 29.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s creative director Tetsuya Nomura recently revealed that the game – which is the second in a planned trilogy making up a Final Fantasy VII remake – ends at the Forgotten Capital.
Without spoiling anything, The Forgotten Capital is the location of one of the most talked-about ‘shock’ plot twists in Final Fantasy history – as such, it appears that Rebirth may end with this moment as a cliffhanger, to prepare players for the third game.
The game’s director Naoki Hamaguchi also told Indonesian website Gamebrott that there will be “a big surprise” when it comes to “the you-know-what moment” in that scene.

With Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth’s release date fast approaching, Square Enix has dropped a new video recapping the story of Final Fantasy VII: Remake.
One of the unique things that Square Enix did with the first entry in its “remake saga” was that it focused on Cloud’s journey through Midgar and the events that happened at the beginning of the original title. By doing so, they could showcase new characters and give depth to ones you didn’t think about before. In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, that trend will continue. After all, you’ll be able to visit more places than ever before, which means there will be plenty of new people to meet. Over on Twitter, the game’s official handle dropped several new characters you’ll interact with during the main campaign.
Final Fantasy fans have been enjoying the remake of Final Fantasy VII for a good while now. The game was an instant hit when it was first released for the original PlayStation. Decades later, we finally have the game accessible for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms. However, if you’re going into the sequel blind without playing the first game or just need a refresher of events, you’re in luck! A new video upload has been released from the official Final Fantasy YouTube channel, giving players another quick recap of everything that happened from the first game installment.
Red XIII narrates the story so far.
New Final Fantasy VII Rebirth screenshots were shared online today, showcasing the Kalm and Under Junon areas, Red XIII, Synergy Attacks, and more.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth arrives in February, which isn’t too far on the horizon, so Square Enix is getting players prepared with a cinematic refresher of its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Remake. The company pairs that with a batch of fresh screenshots and art, including the first glimpse of the Highwind airship.
Square Enix has released new information and screenshots for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth detailing the characters of Kalm and Under Junon, playable character Red XIII, Synergy Abilities and Skills, the summon Kujata, Protorelics, materia development, Chocoboutiques, and combat styles and difficulty levels.
New Final Fantasy VII Rebirth details have emerged online thanks to the game's ESRB rating, which also suggests how Costa del Sol may be hotter than expected in the second entry in the series.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will continue the FFVII remake trilogy with a more open world-like design. To that end, Naoki Hamaguchi, one of the game's directors, admitted he took inspiration from Western games like CD Projekt RED's The Witcher and Guerrilla Games' Horizon.
The Marvels director Nia DaCosta found an interesting source of inspiration when pitching the film to Marvel: the computer animated film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is continuing the re-telling of Square Enix's most iconic entry, which means it's about to step into one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Final Fantasy history. I won't spoil anything yet, but that means fans are debating endlessly about the fates of their favourite characters and who deserves to face the music this time around.
