There is plenty of hype built up around Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. But if you needed another reason to get excited about this game, it looks like a lot more care and effort went into side content. We’re getting this next installment to the Final Fantasy VII remake in February of next year. As a result, there’s a bit more marketing and interviews popping up about the title and what fans can expect. Recently, Game Informer spoke with some of the folks behind Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. During their conversation, it was unveiled that The Witcher 3 played a significant role in where developers were taking inspiration.
The Witcher 3 is another massive RPG and one that continues to be played today. Fans have expressed how much they enjoy the base campaign and the side content CD Projekt Red put into the title. Plenty of side storylines carry quite a bit of depth, making it appealing to go through outside of just seeking out the various rewards that come with these quests. Square Enix has noticed and wanted to bring that into Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Speaking with the co-director, Motomu Toriyama, the developer noted that the team heavily researched titles like The Witcher 3. It was a push to see content that would be satisfying for players outside of just the main storyline.
Regarding titles like The Witcher 3, which has that open-world role-playing type element, we did some extensive research into these types of titles and looked at it as a baseline in which Rebirth should be a type of title that can stand alongside it and have the type of content that would be satisfying to its players.
Fortunately, for fans who want a lengthy gameplay experience, it seems that you’ll get that with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. That’s just as long as you complete everything within the game. Earlier, we reported that the base game will take players forty hours to complete. However, if you want to get through all the extra content found in this title, you’ll need to set aside about a hundred hours or so. Add in the fact that we might get side quests that hold up to the level of detail from The Witcher 3, and we might be in for some enthralling experiences.
Again, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be available on February 29, 2024. So we don’t have too long of a wait to endure before we can get our hands on the game. With that said, when this title launches, you can pick up a copy for the PlayStation 5 platform. In the meantime, you can check out a trailer for the upcoming game in the video we have below.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is only a couple short months away, but if you want to kick off the FF7 fun early, you can in… Apex Legends. Yes, a new Apex Legends and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth crossover event kicks off next week, which will include a new takeover that will allow you to find and wield the iconic Buster Sword. In addition to that, you can expect the usual array of cosmetics, including some pretty cool-looking skins that see Apex heroes dressing up as the likes of Tifa, Aerith, Barrett, and Yuffie. You can check out a quick trailer for the event, below.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is looking like its going to be a much more expansive game than its predecessor. Its main story alone is said to be around 40 hours long, while Square Enix says that with side content included, that can go up to over 100 hours. A lot of that is obviously going to be thanks to its vast, seamless open world setting, and speaking recently with Game Informer, the action RPG’s developers spoke a bit more about what that will bring to the table.
Unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is going to continue to expand and recontextualize the original PS1 classic in more ways than one, from its seamless open world map to the content it will house to just how long the game will be. That, unsurprisingly, will mean added screentime and narrative content for a number of characters, among which fan-favourite villain Sephiroth will seemingly be one of the most prominent.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is going to feature a scene that made the game's Creative Director cry, but it's not what everybody may think.

Let’s be honest here for a moment. 2023 had many ups and downs in gaming, even if Geoff Keighley doesn’t want to admit it! One of the biggest “downers” of 2023 was a host of games coming out before they ever should’ve been released. Not only does that look bad on the industry, but on the people who worked on the games that should’ve known it would’ve been bad if released then. Yes, some of them might have been fighting back, but other times, it was clear that they were fine with those early releases. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s director won’t be among that cast of “characters” when the game releases next year.
When it comes to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, one of the biggest reasons that gamers want to get their hands on it sooner rather than later is because they want answers to the questions they have. Specifically, the “remake saga” has already made it clear that significant changes to the original game’s storyline will affect certain plot points in the next two titles. Some of them were basic “quality of life” changes to help flesh things out more. But then, some changes drastically affected how the story would be told and who might be alive at the end of it.
