The recently released Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Ultimania confirms that the third game's story has already been written and that it could end up releasing in 2027.
It's only been just over a month since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth released and, while many of us are still working our way through its behemoth of an open world, it seems that Square Enix is already looking way into the future for the third and final part of the trilogy. We've already known for some time that work on Part 3 is already underway, but it seems it's progressing at a steady pace.
Just a few days ago, the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Ultimania, a book that collects behind-the-scenes information and comments from developers, released in Japan, and Twitter user aitaikimochi has been translating and translating the most interesting bits. Although most of the Ultimania focuses on Rebirth itself, it also takes some time to talk about the unnamed third game in the series.
According to aitaikimochi's translations, creative director Tetsuya Nomura revealed in the Ultimania that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's story (god I can't wait until we get the actual name) has already been completed and that voice recording for the title could start in the near future. Nomura also noted that Rebirth's producer, Yoshinori Kitase, proposed an idea that is "very important" to include, although we have no idea what that is.
The Ultimania also features comments from Kitase himself, who says that he wants to deliver on Part 3 without having to "sacrifice quality over time". He points out that Rebirth was able to be released so soon after Remake because Square Enix kept the same development team from that game, something that will also be the case for the next entry.
Even if we don't have the third game's name yet, we do already know that it's going to feature the Highwind in some capacity .
Finally, Kitase notes that Rebirth was completed around three years after Remake (not counting the one year that was spent on the Intergrade DLC), which is another thing that he hopes to replicate for the third and final game. With that in mind, it seems like the final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy could end up launching in 2027, provided development goes smoothly.
Final Fantasy Rebirth is the second part of the FF7 Remake project. It continues the story of Cloud Strife, a former SOLDIER turned mercenary who joins Avalanche, a group of eco-terrorists seeking to save the planet from the malevolent Sephiroth. As the party pushes out of Midgar, leaving the Shinra Corporation devastated, where will their paths take them?
