Nobody better lay a finger on Cloud's Butterfinger...or is it Zack's?

Matthew Mercer has confirmed he's the voice actor behind Vincent Valentine in Square Enix's forthcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Mercer is known for his part in D&D show Critical Role, as well as voicing countless video game characters: from Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom, to McCree in Overwatch, Yusuke in Persona 5, the player character in Destiny 2, Goro Majima in Yakuza: Like A Dragon, and plenty more. In fact, he was already in Final Fantasy 7 Remake playing multiple additional voices.
Mercer made the announcement at New York Comic Con where he hosted a panel of actors from the game: Cody Christian (Cloud Strife), John Eric Bentley (Barret Wallace), Britt Baron (Tifa Lockhart), Max Mittelman (Red XIII) and Suzie Yeung (Yuffie Kisaragi).
It was widely rumoured, then, that Mercer would also be in the game, but now we know for sure he'll be playing everyone's favourite moody vampire.
Vincent was seen in the latest trailer for the game and gives a brief line, but at the panel Mercer gave a little more. You can watch the full panel over on our sister site Popverse.
After the announcement, Mercer posted on X (formerly Twitter): «A year of dreams culminates with this one. No game has had the impact on me quite like FF7 did, and to be a part of it, let alone one of my favourite characters, is an honour beyond words.

It's been confirmed, however, that Vincent won't be playable in the game. Instead, he'll join the party at specific points like Red XIII did in the previous game.
I got to play Rebirth a few weeks back and loved it, describing it as „Remake supercharged“. You can check out more thoughts in my Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth preview.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn't going to stick to the script of the original game, we know that for certain. For starters, everyone's favorite himbo Zack Fair is alive and well, and it's already been stated by creative director Tetsuya Nomura that the remake trilogy will attempt to bring in certain story elements from spinoffs and movies such as Advent Children.
One of the biggest questions of Square Enix’s “remake saga” with Cloud and friends was, “how much are they going to change things?” At first, it seemed like the changes would merely be cosmetic in the gameplay space. After all, the company had moved past turn-based combat for their mainline titles, and the remake took that and ran with it in a good way. But as players actually went through the title, they noticed not just a focus on the Midgar saga but fleshed-out characters and big changes. All this makes Final Fantasy VII Rebirth even more anticipated because of the changes that could come.
The anticipation for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth grows with every week that goes by and every piece of news that gets put out for it. In the game, we’ll finally get to set foot outside of Midgar and see the world of Gaia for the most part. Square Enix has already highlighted certain cities and areas we’ll visit, including the final “fateful” location that will end the game. But there are still many mysteries surrounding the title that we won’t get answered until we play it. For example, there’s the issue with Zack Fair and his role in the remake saga.
Watch out for falling Sephiroths before praying to the planet.
Final Fantasy XIV’s achievements are no joke, as proved by the 10 years it took the first player to earn every achievement in the MMO. But director and producer Naoki Yoshida is up for making even more difficult achievements, if the achievement-hunting pro is game for the challenge.

So, if you haven’t heard, some big things are going down in Final Fantasy XIV. Not only is a new expansion coming that will help start a new story and give players even more things to do, but a new collaboration will make Square Enix fans happy. Specifically, a collaboration with the most recent entry from the beloved RPG series will happen as Clive Rosfield arrives in the game and joins the Warriors of Light! Even more specifically, there’s a questline that is called “The Path Infernal,” and it’s there that you can meet Clive and battle monsters that appear to be like Eikons. You can watch the reveal trailer for that below.
When it comes to games coming out in 2024, it will be hard to top the hype for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It took quite a while for the original remake title to be released on PS4, but once it did, it was rather legendary. Square Enix put everything they could into this remake saga so that it would stand out visually, have advanced gameplay mechanics, and still feel like the original, but be expanded in ways they couldn’t do before. The result was one of the system’s best titles, and now, the sequel has the same hype attached to it.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will feature what is likely the most well-known event of the original, and of JRPGs in general, and it sounds like it will be surprising even for those who played the original.
It’s no secret thatFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a massive game, but while there is a copious amount of content, fans are excited to see where the story goes next. Various trailers have showcased Zack Fair, who ventures to Midgar following the events of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, but a familiar foe from Final Fantasy 7 Remake also appears. Spoilers follow, so beware.
Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi originally turned down the roleplaying game’s now-iconic soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu - until the legendary composer simply changed the track order, that is.
