Leaked several days ago and now confirmed as part of Sony's latest State of Play broadcast, the playable demo for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is available to download from the PS Store. It weighs in at a whopping 48.6GB, which is huge for a pre-release peek.
The demo itself will take you through Rebirth's prologue, as Cloud joins Sephiroth on an expedition through Nifelheim and its surrounding mountains, before checking in on the local mako reactor. And yes, you do get to play as Sephiroth. Beating the prologue in the demo allows you to skip the same section in the full game.
What's more, the demo will be updated between now and the full launch of Rebirth on the 29th February. Said update will add an explorable area around Junon, allowing you to delve a little deeper into the game's open world and combat mechanics.
Oh, and if you need something to keep you entertained while you wait for the demo to download, you may want to give our new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth preview a read:

Robert's been a dedicated PlayStation fan since the days of Tekken 2, and he still loves a good dust up. When he's not practising combos, he's usually getting lost in the latest 100-hour RPG, or, y'know, replaying The Witcher 3.
So does the progress carry over or no?
Mixed feelings. If it's a bit of the start then it feels pointless as well have to do it again on a few weeks. I was hoping for something more complete — as in, chapter 1 complete with an import — but this sounds like little sample followed by a little sample. But then it's a bit much to expect the whole first chapter.
Either way, I'm downloading now

Among the many optional activities you can complete in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are the World Intel events, which allow you to experience more of the game's expansive world.
If you’re getting ready to start your Final Fantasy VII Rebirth adventure, let me offer you fair warning: it is a long game. If you’re planning to do every sidequest, minigame, and Chadley combat battle, you’ll be wandering around Gaia for 100 hours. That’s not an exaggeration; I hit credits in 73 hours and I still had a massive checklist of side content to complete.
To some it was a highlight of the game, a revelation in the story. To others it was an overlong interactive cutscene, time wasted when we could be levelling up.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth sees the return of the engaging Fort Condor minigame seen in the INTERmission expansion of the previous entry in the series. Featuring the same mechanics, this minigame is among the best featured in the game, but it can also be one of the most challenging, alongside Queen's Blood, as it requires a bit of tactical thinking to master.
Final Fantasy VII Remake was updated today on PC and PlayStation 5, introducing a small change but breaking a fundamental mod.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is just a few days away from its PlayStation 5 launch, but the rave critic reviews have already kicked up the hype even further. Our Kai Powell rated the game with a perfect score, and the average review score from critics is the highest for the whole series since 2000's Final Fantasy IX.
Turbo Kid is a 2015 movie set in a post-apocalypse in which a comic book fan battles a local tyrant, with gory, comedic, '80s-pastiching results. It was not a film I expected to get a metroidvania sequel, but here it is with a new demo and an April release date.
Streaming giant Twitch has been fined over $300,000 by the South Korean government for violations of federal law, as the platform prepares to terminate its services in the country. Twitch is ending service in South Korea on February 27, and this massive fine has once again raised eyebrows in response to the streaming service's decision.
A humorous new Red Bull ad features the iconic energy drink brand teaming up with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, in anticipation of the launch of the long-awaited RPG. With the debut of the next entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga less than a week away, fans have been treated to plenty of updates about the game. The sequel will bring players outside the city of Midgar, opening up the world of Final Fantasy 7 and introducing new playable characters like Red XIII and Cait Sith. Now, Square-Enix and Red Bull are teaming up to celebrate the game's release.
Look, when something anticipated is about to drop or come out? The last thing anyone wants is to get spoiled because they accidentally came across something online or heard someone talking about it. Another thing to consider is that many people get advanced copies of things like video games and thus are allowed to do streaming and various videos highlighting the product they got access to. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a week away from release, and the reviews for the title paint it as something incredibly special. But for Tetsuya Nomura, he wants to ensure that those with the title right now don’t spoil too much for those who don’t.
Your adventure beyond Midgar begins in just over a week when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PS5 February 29. You may have taken your first steps into that wider world already, thanks to the recent demo, or marveled at that expanse via the State of Play dedicated to the game. And what sights there are. Sprawling, densely detailed open areas and cityscapes, redesigned character models, reimagined threats and new enemies, side-quests and mini-games galore. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth packs a lot in.
