A new post from the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account has some fans thinking that it's a new glimpse at Kingdom Hearts 4, but it's actually just an edited shot of Kingdom Hearts 3's secret ending.
As any Kingdom Hearts fan is well aware of by now, it's been a long dry spell for any substantial news on the series, with Missing Link's impending release at some point this year being the only thing that we've had to get excited about since 2022. That's not the case for Final Fantasy 7 Remake fans, though, as their four-year-long wait for a new game finally needed yesterday with the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
To celebrate that fact, the official Japanese Kingdom Hearts Twitter account shared an image of Sora standing in Quadratum (the Kingdom Hearts equivalent of the afterlife that also looks like Shibuya, for some reason) and looking at adverts of Sephiroth on the big screens ahead of him - a cute reference to the real-life adverts that have started appearing in Japan.
It's been such a dry spell for Kingdom Hearts news that some fans and outlets have reported that the artwork used for the Twitter post is from Kingdom Hearts 4, since it shows Sora standing in Quadratum. While it's true that Sora is in Quadratum, the artwork isn't new at all and actually originates from Kingdom Hearts 3's secret ending.
It's just a clever shot taken from that cutscene that shows Sora looking at the screens ahead of him, with Sephiroth imposed on it to celebrate the release of Rebirth, something that's proven further by Kingdom Hearts 3 being named in the bottom left of the image. The wait for Kingdom Hearts 4 news is long, but this isn't it.
In case there was any doubt, Sora is also shown in his Kingdom Hearts 3 outfit, which we know will be replaced with a more realistic look when he's in Quadratum.
This also isn't the first time that Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts have celebrated a major event in the other's series. When it was Kingdom Hearts 3's 20th anniversary, the Final Fantasy 7 Twitter account shared an image of Cloud standing in front of Kingdom Hearts (as in the moon, not the game) in a pose similar to what Sora does on the cover art of the first game, while Kingdom Hearts returned the favour for Final Fantasy 7's 25th anniversary with a shot of Sora standing like Cloud does in artwork for Remake.
