Fallout 76 Players Want Nuclear Winter Battle Royale Mode To Return

Fallout 76 is seeing a huge resurgence right now, with the success of the TV show bringing in a bunch of new players. This has long-time fans hoping that Bethesda gives its battle royale mode, Nuclear Winter, another shot, three years after it was taken down.
Some suggest that the game mode should come temporarily, especially now that the community is more than large enough to support 52-player matches. Now would certainly be a good time for Bethesda to test the waters, and see if there's room in the MMO for the battle royale to return for good.
As you can see in the clip above, Nuclear Winter was pretty tense, as you'd expect from a battle royale. If you lose a fight, you're not only risking a loss but getting teabagged by the guy that shot you - who at least gets punished for doing so in this example.
Players in the replies admit that Nuclear Winter had its issues - a common complaint is that it felt clunky to play - but they still have fond memories of the mode. Others go as far as saying that the battle royale was great, and shouldn't have been removed from Fallout 76.
Nuclear Winter was taken offline in 2021. At the time, Bethesda explained that this was due to its dwindling playerbase, which made it difficult to fill lobbies without long wait times. It also said it was "challenging to provide meaningful updates" to Nuclear Winter while supporting the rest of Fallout 76.
With this in mind, the future of the game mode is unclear. On the one hand, the huge increase in players could alleviate one of Nuclear Winter's issues, but the dev team will still need the manpower to support other areas of the MMO. There's also no guarantee that the new players will stick around and become part of the core playerbase, but there's a good chance that the recent boost has created a few new super fans. In the meantime, the Fallout 76 resurgence is still going strong.
