Obsidian Entertainment and Microsoft have released an extended Avowed gameplay breakdown video, detailing various aspects of the upcoming RPG.
Last week, during the Xbox Developer Direct, Microsoft and Obsidian released the first gameplay deep dive video while revealing a Fall 2024 release window. In this video, the game's combat system was shown off alongside the game's different biomes, and player choices. "To help with the different encounters you will face, we provide customizable load-outs that can be quickly switched during combat", Gameplay Director Gabriel Paramo explained. "That means you can play however you want. Equip a sword and shield and charge into battle. Dual wield pistols and control the encounter at mid-range, or even dual wield wands to feel like a gunslinging mage."
Fast forward a few days and we now have a 25-minute-long "deeper" deep dive gameplay video with Obsidian. The most interesting tidbits from this video might be that Avowed will feature open zones that are comparable to the larger zones in The Outer Worlds. Also, Game Director Carrie Patel mentioned that players will meet "a couple more" companions aside from the two companions already shown off. For reference, The Outer Worlds features six companions so it will be interesting to see how many companions Avowed will include.
"So, it's open zone right", Gameplay Director Gabe Paramo said. "Comparable to Outer World areas on the larger side, and multiple paths essentially, to be able to tackle combat situations."
"Yes, you'll meet a couple more", Game Director Carrie Patel said when asked whether players will meet other companions throughout the game. "Kai and Giatta are just two of them".
