recently hosted its Partner Preview, showing some third-party games coming to the console. The event’s headliners were arguably Alan Wake 2 and the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. However, those were hardly the only games that appeared during the livestream.
The showcase opened with a look at the Happy Resort DonDoko Island mode for Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. This alternate mode sees Kasuga taking a break from the Yakuza lifestyle to manage the titular resort. Players can customize the island, decorate Kasuga’s house, and befriend NPCs while occasionally fighting off uninvited guests. Infinite Wealth launches on January 26th, 2024.
Next up was the announcement trailer for Ikaro Will Not Die. Developed by FuturLab, the upcoming action game combines gravity surfing movement martial arts combos. FuturLab hasn’t revealed much about the game but calls it a spiritual sequel to the studio’s Velocity series.
The Xbox showcase continues with Still Wakes the Deep, a first-person survival-horror game arriving in early 2024. An oil rig struck something otherworldly in the North Atlantic, which seems to be driving workers mad. Players will need to survive the collapsing rig as they find a way to save themselves and their crew.
Launching on November 2nd, Robocop: Rogue City sees the titular cyborg on a mission to take down the city’s newest gang leader. Teyon’s upcoming first-person shooter has all the gunfire and one-liners that fans expect from an 80s movie adaptation. Actor Peter Weller reprises his role as the cyborg policeman.
Next was a showcase of Microbird Games’ Dungeons of Hinterberg, coming in 2024. This pastel-colored dungeon crawler sees protagonist Luisa dividing her time between action combat and befriending the locals. This specific trailer emphasizes the game’s social aspects and the perks players unlock by building relationships with NPCs.
Xbox’s Partner Preview included the announcement trailer for Spirit of the North 2. Players explore the ruins of an ancient world as a fox alongside their raven companion.
The second half of the Xbox’s showcase begins with the first in-engine preview of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. A remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, it brings the mountains and jungle to life with Unreal Engine 5.
Up next in the Xbox stream was the gameplay trailer for the historical RTS Manor Lords. Set in 14th-century Germany, the upcoming game combines detailed city-building with Total War-style battles. On the surface, a RoboCop video game seems like a very straightforward premise—fight bad guys as a cyborg cop and uphold the law in dystopian '80s America. However, most of RoboCop's game appearances didn't quite focus on the social satire and gray morality of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 film, instead leaning on a shooter experience.
We are a week into November and the penultimate month of the year brings another healthy lineup of game releases. This month, we're getting an eclectic lineup of games — from a throwback adaptation of an 80s cult cyberpunk film to a much-anticipated remake of a beloved Super Nintendo classic. Perhaps the biggest release of November is the next Call of Duty. On November 10, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 comes out, continuing the story of the reboot trilogy. The Activision shooter promises to bring new multiplayer modes and maps.
Today, Xbox announced it has signed a multi-year partnership with Inworld AI to take advantage of the company's generative AI technology alongside Microsoft's own Azure OpenAI service.
Microsoft’s Xbox and Inworld AI have partnered to create AI-powered game development tools for narrative and character creation.
As the new video game RoboCop: Rogue City arrives in stores both digital and physical, you might be wondering how it pays tribute to cop-turned-robot Alex Murphy's finest moments on screen.
We were mightily impressed with Teyon’s adaptation, as seen in our review, and part of what makes it so great are the many characters bringing the world to life.
Imagine a 1980s movie tie-in video game, but made with the technological capabilities today and an abundant amount of love for the source material.
How is it that the long-running franchise has suddenly manifested its best adaptation in years? Developer Teyon should be applauded, not just for making an enjoyable, substantive game that outshines most other attempts at this IP, but for taking such delicate care of the character and his world, resulting in possibly the finest overall narrative since the original film. The subtlest details of the art direction and sound design are a knockout, supported by a solid, if somewhat simple, FPS and action-RPG framework. The resultant package feels custom-built for devotees, overstuffed with tributes at nearly every step of the story, effectively surpassing its occasional misstep or bug.
We were huge fans of the hectic action of Embark Studios’ latest first-person shooter (FPS) The Finals. Now in open beta on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the game pits teams of three in a frantic scramble as they fight to secure piles of cash in a destructible game show arena.
