Empire of the Ants – GDC 2024 trailer

Piranha Games has released the first gameplay trailer and screenshots for MechWarrior 5: Clans, its September 2023-announced standalone tactical action game, as well as confirmed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series as its previously announced “PlayStation” and “Xbox” platforms.

Neural networks have grown substantially over the recent years from the iteration of the first Generative Pre-trained Transformers. As NVIDIA has refined their latest graphics cards and Tensor Cores, the capabilities of those networks has been greatly improved in recent years. Traditionally just text-based inputs, NVIDIA has been leveraging TensorRT for deep learning and audio interpretation. In two separate hands-on demonstrations with Inworld AI technology at GDC 2024, we had the opportunity to try and turn both Ubisoft’s NEO NPCs and NVIDIA’s Covert Protocol.

Empire of the Ants is really effective at making you feel like a very tiny being within a much larger world. As a new strategy adventure game set in the insect kingdom, you command an army of ants to explore, expand, and extract resources in a large, near-photorealistic world that looks like it could be in someone's backyard.

This year's Game Developers Conference saw nearly 30,000 people in attendance, its organisers announced.

Not quite gone are the days of the zombie survival simulator. Although there are still titles coming out, the releases seem staggered more and more among the wider breadth of multiplayer titles. NetEase Games is looking to change that dynamic with Once Human, a free-to-play online multiplayer title in the same vein as titles such as Tom Clancy’s The Division. We recently went hands-on with the Unreal Engine 5 title on PC thanks to two NetEase reps (Derek Qiu, Head of Overseas Operation, and Peng Sun/Victoria, World and Content Designer) who sat down to talk with us for a brief interview at GDC 2024.

The gaming industry is in a terrible state right now. Just as we get some of the best games in living memory, the developers that make them are losing their jobs in endless layoffs. More than 10,000 jobs were cut in 2023, a figure that industry executives are already close to surpassing in 2024. It's so bad that it makes you want to scream - so that's exactly what some people did.

Every year at GDC, we play dozens of games that are unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. It’s usually where we find titles that go on to become some of our favorites of the year, like last year’s show-stealing Viewfinder. And while we love finding those surefire hits, our favorite part of the show is discovering the totally unique projects that we can’t stop thinking about.

During a GDC talk yesterday, Nintendo looked back at the creative process for Super Mario Bros Wonder, particularly how the large development team dealt with incorporating everyone's input when creating the game's 'Wonder effects'.

Baldur's Gate 3 swept the Game Developers Choice Awards on Wednesday night, taking home Game of the Year in addition to Best Narrative, Best Design, and the Audience Award.

Kakao Games will publish open-world action MMORPG Chrono Odyssey from South Korean studio NPIXEL and its subsidiary Chrono Studio, the companies announced. It will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.
