Embracer Layoffs Continue as Insurgency Developer New World Interactive Gets Hit | Push Square

Another studio has fallen afoul of Embracer Group's comprehensive restructuring plan, with an unknown number of layoffs being confirmed at New World Interactive, the developer behind the Insurgency series of tactical first-person shooters.
It was initially reported the studio had been closed, but Embracer subsidiary Saber Interactive, which purchased New World in 2020, later confirmed in a statement to Eurogamer that wasn't the case. However, it confirmed an unknown number of layoffs had taken place.
Embracer is «actively working to fill existing open roles» elsewhere in the company with impacted staff and assures that those let go will receive severance packages. «Saber also assures that development will continue on Insurgency: Sandstorm, as well as on unannounced future projects», the company said.

I guess this is what happens when you gobble up way too many developers when you have no actual plan what you are then going to do with them.
A real shame for the individual developers who are now out of a job. There is never a good time to lose your job, but the impact at this time of the year is always worse.
It's also very sad to see some really talented Studios closing down. Hopefully someone like Sony or Microsoft will pick them up, as it's better that they survive, no matter who gets them...

While I 100% agree with all you wrote, «Hopefully someone like Sony or Microsoft will pick them up, as it's better that they survive, no matter who gets them...» is not that easy in reality. When people working there start to sense where it's going (downwards), they usually get new jobs so if let say Sony would buy them up, most of their real talent has already left and that makes it near impossible to make it worth the money it cost to buy them up.
Embracer killed all these studios because they were chasing «easy money» and failed. That's the sad truth here.
The PS5 version of sandstorm is never coming is it?
Unfortunately, @Zeke68, I think you are right. Hopefully these developers do land on their feet with not too much time between paycheques...
