Announced back in May 2021, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has been missing in action ever since. December 2022 was the last time it popped up in the news cycle, with series creator Yuji Horii saying news was potentially coming «soon». We're now closing in on the one-year anniversary of that comment, and obviously, the update never came.
But don't worry, the game itself is still plodding along behind the scenes. Once again, Horii has spoken with Japanese gaming mag Famitsu (as translated by Gematsu), and he confirms that Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake development is «progressing quite steadily». And, well, that's about it.
We suppose there's a chance that the title will show up at Tokyo Game Show this week, but we do wonder how far out its release actually is. You would think that the process of shaping a remake like this would be relatively straightforward, but here we are. Hopefully we get another glimpse of the game soon.
Oh, and Dragon Quest 12? Horii hasn't got much to say on that anticipated sequel, either. «There’s still not much I can say,» he admits.
When do you think we'll see more of these Dragon Quest projects? Quietly hum the Dragon Quest theme in the comments section below.
Robert's been a dedicated PlayStation fan since the days of Tekken 2, and he still loves a good dust up. When he's not practising combos, he's usually getting lost in the latest 100-hour RPG, or, y'know, replaying The Witcher 3.
I do fancy this, I played 3 last year and thought it had aged remarkably well for an NES RPG, even if I played the SNES port.
I don’t think they have even announced platforms for this have they? The spin off DQ quest games have been locked to switch and killed my motivation to play those
Steady development. After two years.
I know the Enix side of things at Square-Enix takes their sweet time, rivaled only by the SaGa and Mana divisions, but MAN. How much longer does it take to create a dolled up remake of a nearly 35 year old game?
I hope we get something at TGS, but not counting on it. Clearly announced way too early.
Still playing XI S hahah gigantic game!!
Don't criticise, you should give them credit! This is a much more sensible way for a dev to behave. Only talk when there's something to say. Don't build up uneccesary hype, or make promises they can't keep.
2 years is nothing in gaming these days, what devs outside of Nintendo announces games less then 2 years before release? No, yearly sports releases don't count, b/c yearly.
