Huge Tekken 8 Showcase Has Story Mode Gameplay, Full Matches, and Much More | Push Square

Set to begin on the 20th October, the closed beta test for Tekken 8 will be used to showcase the game's unique 'Super Ghost Battle' mode. First explained during a Tokyo Game Show presentation last month, these AI-based fights sound pretty cool, as player data is used to create incredibly accurate 'ghosts' that anyone can fight against. In theory, this will let you test your skills against friends or even pro competitors without actually having to match up with them.

The sun is setting on another blissful week of gaming, but the release calendar is so utterly stacked there's still tons of titles to look forward to. Here's what we're playing this weekend.

Regular readers will know, perhaps rather unusually, I love trains. I’ve been covering Train Sim World in intimate detail for years now, much to developer Dovetail’s pleasure. (I will get around to reviewing Train Sim World 4 by the way, it’s just the schedule’s been brutal for me this past month. Also, maybe the studio would like to slow down just a touch with the sequels and expansions so I can catch up?)

Hot Wheels Unleashed was a distinctly pleasant surprise when it launched a couple of years ago, marking a much-needed departure for put-upon motorcycle developer Milestone. While the game handled like a dream – and had some stunningly rendered toy car models, particularly on the PS5 – it lacked variety and had a strange post-release content model, which straddled the line between live service and traditional Season Pass.

Tokyo Game Show is happening right now, and in case you missed it, Sony is celebrating with a new sale on the PS Store. As you'd expect, the offer comprises almost exclusively games made in Japan, though there are one or two outliers. Anyway, there are a lot of fantastic titles included here for both PS5 and PS4.

Dragon's Dogma 2 sticks with the Dark Arisen template to a pleasant but almost surprising degree. Sequels often walk a fine balancing act as significant departures can alienate existing fans, whereas repeating the established gameplay often feels too safe. Capcom's anticipated sequel easily falls into the latter category but when the original action RPG still feels refreshingly original, we'd argue that's not a bad thing. Following a recent preview, we're excited to see more.

If you've been dying to see more of Dragon's Dogma 2 after Capcom's official gameplay presentation, you're in luck — a lot of luck. There's now uncut gameplay footage coming out of Tokyo Game Show, with Japanese publications V Jump and IGN Japan each posting ten-minute captures of the action RPG running on PS5.

No one really talks about Bandai Namco, but the publisher’s doing a bang-up job. Last year it released Elden Ring, which not only proved a critical darling but also a break-out commercial hit. The action RPG ended up becoming a cultural touchstone for 2022, and it helped underline a really impressive run for the Pac-Man maker.

File this one under 'Sh*t We Love to See': the man behind Kazuma Kiryu's Japanese voice got up on stage at Tokyo Game Show and performed a live cover of Baka Mitai. Takaya Kuroda, who's been voicing Kiryu since the PS2 days of Yakuza, put in a belter of a performance which appeared to have just about everyone up on their feet and singing along.

The team behind super-popular games Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are working on a third game that's sure to go nuclear as well — Zenless Zone Zero. This action RPG has previously only been confirmed for PC and mobile platforms, but with the above broadcast from Tokyo Game Show, it's now also been announced for consoles.

If you’ve been listening to the clacking of leather shoes in SEGA’s glamorous – but often oddball – Yakuza series since the late PS2 days, you’ll know the franchise hasn’t always been in this position. For years a PlayStation exclusive, there was a point where Sony was reeled in to localise the release of PS3 late-comer Yakuza 5, as its publisher had lost all interest in the series.

Bandai Namco has spilled loads of details on the upcoming Closed Beta Test for Tekken 8. If you happened to be a part of the previous Closed Network Test, then you'll be especially interested in knowing that sweeping gameplay adjustments have been implemented.
