FromSoftware’s Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon has earned critical acclaim, but its sales are somewhat of a mystery. It topped the weekly sales charts in Japan with over 163,000 units sold, becoming the second-biggest launch in the series, but the total number of units sold worldwide is unknown. However, voice actor Ryo Shimokawa, who played Pater (V.VIII), seems to know.

Set to begin on the 20th October, the closed beta test for Tekken 8 will be used to showcase the game's unique 'Super Ghost Battle' mode. First explained during a Tokyo Game Show presentation last month, these AI-based fights sound pretty cool, as player data is used to create incredibly accurate 'ghosts' that anyone can fight against. In theory, this will let you test your skills against friends or even pro competitors without actually having to match up with them.

Sony is using the opportunity of the PS5’s smaller, slimmer relaunch to stealthily bump the price of the Digital Edition in the United States. While we already know you’ll need to pay extra for a standalone vertical stand, the organisation has also made the decision to hike the overall cost of the non-Blu-ray unit by $50. This means, moving forwards, the disc-less device will increase from an MSRP of $399.99 to $449.99.

The next instalment in D3Publisher's long-running Earth Defense Force series has been available in Japan for well over a year, but Western fans of the bug-blasting shooter can finally look forward to checking it out too. The company has at last revealed when we can expect it to head our way — Earth Defense Force 6 is launching on PS5 and PS4 in the west in Spring 2024.

Bandai Namco has debuted a new developer diary series for Sand Land, the upcoming sandbox action game based on Akira Toriyama's one-volume manga. Just about everything that we've seen of the title so far has shown promise, and the new gameplay that's on display here — along with explanations of mechanics from producer Keishu Minami — has only served to enhance our enthusiasm. Bandai Namco has tapped into the hype surrounding the second season of Spy X Family, releasing the first full gameplay trailer for its upcoming PS5 and PS4 adaptation, Spy x Anya: Operation Memories. The game has Boku No Natsuyasumi vibes to it, as you’ll be accompanying the eponymous pink-haired heroine on holiday with her adopted family, and engaging in various minigames.

Persona 5 Tactica takes the mainline Persona 5 combat and turns it on its head, eschewing the stylish yet traditional JRPG format for crunchier SRPG fare. Thankfully, the adorable Sergeant Morgana has put together a series of instructional videos so that you can get up to speed as quickly as possible once Tactica launches on PS5 and PS4 next month, on 17th November. Sony’s unexpected, last gasp announcements are continuing in earnest today, with confirmation that the previously announced PS5 cloud streaming is coming as a PS Plus Premium perk later this month. Depending on your region, you’ll be able to enjoy “supported” titles from the platform holder’s top streaming tier without needing to download them as soon as next week – and the functionality will extend to Game Trials, so you’ll be able to test out the time-limited demos effectively on-demand.

What's with Japanese publishers and early 2024?! At this point it's becoming a bit of a joke, because we've got yet another Japanese game coming to PS5 and PS4 in the first quarter of next year. Launching on the same day as Persona 3 Reload — that's the 2nd February — is Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash. The date's been outed by the brawler's newly published PlayStation Store page (as spotted by Gematsu).

The surprising revelation that Jim Ryan will retire as Sony Interactive Entertainment’s President and CEO at the end of March 2024 has been, perhaps predictably, met with glee from most corners of the wider video game world.
